'I cheated on my wife with beautiful 28-year-old - but it backfired in my face'
It’s perfectly natural to find other people attractive while in a relationship, even dabbling in a bit of innocent flirting could probably be forgiven. Cheating, on the other hand, most would consider it a deal breaker. And if it does cause a split, it usually isn’t long before the cheater realises that while the grass may have looked greener, close up - it’s not as lush.
This is the case one broken-hearted man has discovered after he left his wife for a younger woman. Sharing his problem on social media, the 40-year-old dad explained that he and his wife were high school sweethearts and had been together for 25 years. They also have two young daughters aged five and six.
He admitted that he’d felt for the past five years that they were only still together out of habit, having been together for so long and not knowing anything different. But instead of speaking to his wife and long-term love, he cheated.
The man went on: “I met my now girlfriend, who is 28, at work. She is beautiful and attractive and I thought she was this new change I wanted. Instead of breaking it off with my ex and doing the right thing I cheated and I got caught.

“My wife was so gracious about it. She didn’t want us to be together anymore. This was a year ago and I left our house and rented an apartment. We have yet to start divorce proceedings and neither of us has talked about it.”
With two young children to consider, the man admitted that he has been reluctant to speed this process up as it’s not essential. However, this has caused issues between him and his girlfriend.
He continued: “My girlfriend is not so happy about this, mainly because I left our big house that’s originally my house to my wife and daughters. I inherited it from my grandparents and it is worth a fortune right now. She means that it is my family home and for me yes it is! My family is living there. But she means that when we get divorced, my wife has no claim to the house.
“Three weeks ago we were dropping our daughters off with their mother and my girlfriend went against my wishes and started talking to my wife about the house. My wife was confused and said that the house was hers and her daughters and she looked at me all confused but my girlfriend told her that it was mine. And it was time to move on.
“My wife then said that she shouldn’t put her nose in other people’s business. My girlfriend became angry and said that my wife is a hag who is bitter because she’s old. My wife smiled and said, ‘is your age your only redeeming quality? Because that won’t last', then she said that she'd ‘rather be 80 years old me than 20-year-old you’.
“She wasn’t angry or bitter. She isn’t old either. She is 40, like me. Am I so old according to my girlfriend? She’s very beautiful too. I don’t know what my girlfriend was thinking. I felt so ashamed and angry with myself. My girlfriend was immature and embarrassing.”
The man then admitted he hasn’t been happy in his relationship for months but can’t face breaking it off as it would mean he’d hurt his family for nothing. He finished: “My wife called me the next day and said that maybe we should start talking about divorce and I broke down crying the moment we ended the call.
“Now every time I see her I want to be in her arms. I’ve realised I'd rather have 80-year-old her than 20-year-old anyone. But I have messed that up.” Despite the candid and raw post, people had very little sympathy for the cheating dad. One person blasted: “You’re such a cliché. Nice job throwing your family away.” While another reader joked: “He’s trying to live his best Leo DiCaprio life and he’s realising it doesn’t work out in real life.”
One rap fan also pointed out that the man’s wife was clearly an Eminem lover as she had used a lyric to diss his girlfriend. They enthused: “Your wife rules and I want to be friends with her. Also - the 'I'd rather be 80-year-old me than 20-year-old you' Killshot lyric is stone-cold and I'm saving that in my memory bank.”
