Jada Pinkett Smith opened up about the special place she holds for Tupac Shakur in her heart ahead of her book release.

She told Rolling Out: "If there is such a thing as past lives, I definitely think Pac and I have traveled a few together. You know, in various forms."

Tupac and Jada never actually dated and the actress has maintained that even after the rapper's death. Instead, they were known for being incredibly close friends and first meeting at the Baltimore School for the Arts in the 1980s. Their close friendship was the source of rumors and speculation. While Jada later admitted the two kissed, she now said they didn't have any sort of "chemistry".

Jada explained that she doesn't view soulmates as one specific thing. When asked if she believes in them, she replied: "Absolutely, we have so many... our children can be our soulmates... I think the kind of romanticised idea of a soulmate... there's all kinds of definitions of soulmates."

She hints that in her book, she delves into the complex dynamic between herself and Tupac. While she said she considered taking the next step in the relationship, "it just wasn't possible" due to the lack of chemistry. They certainly had a certain type of "friendship love", but otherwise it just didn't work out. In her interview, she laughed on camera as she explained further.

Jada said: "Let me tell you I don't think Pac and I... We had those moments and I wish I could get people to understand the repelling nature. It was almost like God made us that way. He was like 'Look, we'll put y'all together, alright? Y'all gonna be a dynamic duo, but I'm gonna tell you right now, I'm gonna make it so you're not going to be able to get together.' 'Cause that just wasn't the purpose. and I know it was so hard... and it wasn't just me, him, too."

Her book Worthy is set for released on Oct. 17, 2023 and delves into her personal life. The book promises to strip back the veil and give fans a deeper look behind the Hollywood facade. Similarly, the book Tupac Shakur: The Authorised Biography will be released on Oct. 24, 2023, but it's unclear if it will include information about Jada.
