MAFS fans baffled as Shona and Brad kicked off show but vow to 'work on things'

Married At First Sight UK fans didn't know what to think after Shona and Brad got the boot from show - but then vowed to 'work on things' together.

Brad, 27, was paired with the performing arts teacher, 31, but tonight viewers saw their marriage seemingly fall to pieces. They left the progress after an honest chat with experts Paul C Brunson and Mel Schilling as they were told things have just become too toxic for them to remain.

They then promised to get to the bottom of their issues, hinting at a return. It left everyone baffled after the couple refused to give up on their relationship despite being told to leave - and it had everyone scratching their heads.

Paul said it was in everyone's best interests that they left the show and the couple at first didn't seem to agree. Shona said: "I don't want to go yet, guys. In the past I have ran - but I really want to stay." But Paul said the intensity of the process is just too much for the marriage. He said they couldn't stay, despite pleading for another chance.

Mel then asked what the success of their relationship in the outside could be. Brad said: "Leaving is the best option for us to give us a chance. I feel caged, that's why it has become toxic - but if we started dating, got to know each other..."

Shona then told Brad he loved him but later explained: "He has things he needs to work on, I need things I need to work on. I believe it is the right decision to go. This is what we have to do and it's a sign of growth. We are willing to give it a shot." She later added: "Yes we have had toxic moments but the whole thing hasn't been like that."

Brad claimed that he 'allowed' Shona to feel all the emotions she wanted to express during the dramatic commitment ceremony as their relationship hit a few bumps in recent episodes. He said: "Not that I'm in a position of authority or to teach her, but if I allow her to get angry, is she ever going to learn?"

It resulted in him facing backlash from furious fans and the Women's Aid charity even released a statement commending the experts for calling him out on the dangerous language used. After days of intense scrutiny, Channel 4 confirmed he was booted from the show.

After hitting headlines for the wrong reasons, Brad - who reportedly already moved on with a new girl from his hometown - chatted to The Mirror about being shown in a negative light as he shared his side of the story.

He admitted he was never in love with the teacher, but the "highly emotional environment" with "no external influences and guidance" made it easy to confuse lust with love. He told us: "I most definitely can confirm that I wasn't in love, but at that time, it was a strong feeling of lust that I got confused with.

"Yeah, because you haven't got a lot of external influences or guidance like you have on the outside world like on the outside world you have a lot of freedom and flexibility to actually find out if that's the case. You know, when in there I was really trying to make it work. So I think a lot of the time with me saying these things I was trying my hardest, you know, to really make things work but I was really trying to navigate myself to be fair."

However, he understood why he received a lot of backlash for the way he spoke to/about Shona. The model claimed he "never intended" to "project certain terminology." Agreeing with the experts for calling him out and correcting him, he said: "I agree with what they're saying [about his controlling language].
