Police have confirmed that an unnamed assailant went rampant at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport today, stabbing three people in the process.

The suspect has been detained and arrested. Of the three injured, one was an Atlanta police officer while the other two were simply travellers making their way through the terminal. An updated tweet said: "[An] APD lieutenant was stabbed in the leg. Extent of his injury not clear. Other person here is the suspect being held down by an officer. She’s being questioned at the moment."

It's unclear what led to the stabbing but unconfirmed reports on social media show people crouching near a security line. The airport's official account tweeted: "An incident in ATL’s domestic terminal this afternoon is being cleared. Impacts to operations are minimal. There is no threat to the public." The incident happened in the south terminal of the airport.

Sarah Nagem, an editor with Border Belt Independent in North Carolina who was "flying out of the Atlanta when the incident occurred, wrote on X that passengers in the terminal were told it was a domestic situation and that it is a 'fluid' situation," according to Fox News.

The names of those injured or the suspect have not yet been released. It is likely the local authorities will first notify any families of the involved, and then release identities.

Atlanta airport is not usually the center of a serious crime scene, but plenty of incidents have predated this one. Just weeks ago, a half-naked man scaled a fence at the world's busiest airport, sprinted along a taxiway then jumped onto the wing of a stationary plane.

The man, identified as Jhryin Jones, 19, pounded on the aircraft's windows before being arrested. In a video of the bizarre incident at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, US, the man appears to be wearing just his underpants and carrying his clothes in his arms.

Passengers held an emergency door shut to keep him from getting inside the plane, according to reports. It is also claimed he was spotted lying on the ground doing sit-ups at one point. Jones was later charged with criminal trespassing, public indecency and obstruction of law enforcement officers, police said.
