As Halloween draws closer, film-fans may be looking for that next big horror film to get in the mood for the spooky season. Luckily, a brand-new film has just premiered that is sure to tantalise fans of the genre.

From production company Blumhouse – the team behind a plethora of recent horror films and franchises including Paranormal Activity, Insidious, The Purge and Halloween – the 1980s-set slasher Totally Killer offers a clever mashup of horror, teen comedy and sci-fi.

It centres on teenager Jamie Hughes, who, 35 years after the grisly murder of three teens, accidentally travels back in time to stop the masked killer’s spree before it happens. With the help of her teen mother and her friends, Jamie must navigate the unfamiliar and outrageous culture of 1987 and take down the killer before she’s stuck in the past forever.

Critics have also praised its lead actress Mad Men and Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka – who fronts an ensemble cast of young actors, many of whom playing teen versions of their present day characters.
