The world has been rocked by the latest news regarding Will and Jada

Hollywood star Will Smith has been secretly separated from his wife Jada Pinkett Smith for seven years, but there were several signs that the couple had split long before today's revelation.

Jada lifted the lid on her and Will's turbulent relationship today, with the star revealing she and her estranged husband are still trying "figure out" what the future of their marriage looks like after they separated in 2016.

She explained that they had even been living separately when Will famously slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars last year. Will, 54, confronted comedian Chris, 58, during the live broadcast of the awards ceremony over a joke that had been made about his wife's alopecia.

And now after this has all come to light about their secret split, were there always signs that the couple were never truly as strong as everybody believed?

Well, back in August 2011 there were rumours that Jada was seeing Marc Anthony, with this then sparking the couple to release a statement to People Magazine that said: "Although we are reluctant to respond to these types of press reports, the rumours circulating about our relationship are completely false. We are still together, and our marriage is intact."

Then just two years later in 2013, Jada hinted at the couple being in an open relationship when she took to Facebook to say: "Here is how I will change my statement...Will and I BOTH can do WHATEVER we want because we TRUST each other to do so. This does NOT mean we have an open relationship...this means we have a GROWN one."

Then, in 2015 rumours circulated about the couple, which in turn forced Will to speak out. He took to social media and wrote: "Under normal circumstances, I don’t usually respond to foolishness. (Because it’s contagious). But so many people have extended me their ‘deepest condolences’ that I figured. ‘What the hell...I can be foolish too!’

"So, in the interest of redundant, repetitious, over & over-again-ness...Jada and I are...NOT GETTING A DIVORCE!!!!!!!!!!!!! : -) I promise you all....if I ever decide to divorce my Queen... I SWEAR I’ll tell you myself! #Dumb People Should Have to Wear Scarlet D’s," he concluded.

But in 2017 eyebrows were raised a little higher when Jada was seen getting close to August Alsina, who is 21-years her junior, with them even attending the BET Awards together. August even went on to claim that he dated Jade while she was married.

And in an interview he even brazenly claimed: "I actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership that they’ve spoken on several times and it not involving romanticism," adding how he "totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life and I truly and really, really deeply loved and have a ton of love for her.”

He also said that Will gave them his "blessing" before Jada's reps said the claims were "absolutely not true".

Then, in 2020 Jada opened up about the August situation in front of her husband during Red Table Talk. Chatting candidly, Jada confirmed that she did have a relationship with August, but urged that she and Will were separated at the time.

"We decided that we were going to separate for a period of time and you go figure out how to make yourself happy and I’ll figure out how to make myself happy," Will said.

Jada then added: "From there, as time went on, I got into a different kind of entanglement with August.…Yes, it was a relationship, absolutely." She then went on to add: "One thing I want to clean up…about you giving ‘permission,’ which is...the only person that can give permission in that circumstance is myself."

Will and Jada share two kids, Jaden and Willow Smith, as well as Will's eldest son, Trey, whom he welcomed with Sheree Zampino when they were married.
