The Beckham household name is reportedly worth upwards of $1 billion (£820,000), with Posh and Becks having built an enormous family empire and fortune together. But before they became known as the England football legend and Spice Girls power duo, Victoria and David were just a normal couple with high-profile jobs.

Their love story started back in 1997, when a young Victoria Adams met up-and-coming Manchester United player David at a charity football match, and he got her number from a friend. "I didn't really know who he was. I was never into football," Victoria later said, as they began dating in the limelight.

The pair of them conducted their relationship in secret, spending hours in David's BMW parked up in the back of a Harvester pub. "We used to kiss, of course, and just spend time together," he revealed on Desert Island Discs in January 2017. In the same interview, David shot down claims the two only stayed together for 'Brand Beckham'.

"People have talked about, 'Do we stay together because it's a brand?' Of course not," he stated. "We stay together because we love each other. We stay together because we have four amazing children." David and Victoria are now parents to Brooklyn, 24, Romeo, 21, Cruz, 18, and Harper, 12.

Two years after they first met, in 1999, they announced their engagement and tied the knot on July 4 by the Bishop of Cork at the beautiful medieval Luttrellstown Castle in Ireland, in a ceremony that cost a whopping £1 million - which set new records for celeb weddings. Brooklyn, then four, served as their tiny ring bearer in a little cream suit.

Their luxurious wedding was covered extensively by a glossy OK! Magazine deal, complete with those infamous golden thrones that attracted a mixture of admiration and hilarity. Victoria wore a champagne coloured Vera Wang wedding dress with a 20-foot train and tight strapless corset, accessorising with a miniature 18-carat gold crown on top of her brunette crop.

David opted for a matching champagne cravat and waistcoat worn underneath a cream suit. The pair released a single white dove as they recited their vows before a purple flag was hoisted up the castle flagpole bearing the initials VBD. The newlyweds then changed into matching purple outfits to celebrate their wedding reception with 230 people - all of who had to wear black and white.

They cut a towering sculptural cake - complete with naked representations of themselves on top - with a sword, watched on by Becks' Manchester United teammates and Victoria's Spice Girls bandmates, Mel C, Mel B, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton. Their Hertfordshire stately home, dubbed Beckingham Palace when they bought it three months after their wedding, was where they raised their brood.

Posh and Becks made a mint when they sold it for £11.3 million in 2014 - several times more than the £2.5 million they'd paid for it in 1999. The two fast became the king and queen of celebrity, with their matching outfits, high-profile careers and dedication to charity work. But their marriage suffered a blow in 2004 when Beckham's personal assistant Rebecca Loos gave an explosive interview in which she claimed she'd had an affair with David while living out in Spain when he was playing for Real Madrid.

David continuously denied the claims, but Rebecca stayed strong for years on her allegations, saying in her first TV interview that she "hoped" Posh and Becks could get through it. Victoria spoke about the Loos rumours in 2007, admitting for the first time that she found it incredibly tough to brave out the allegations. "I'm not going to lie, it was a really tough time. It was a hard time for our entire families," she said.

"David and I got through it together. No one said marriage was going to be easy. Yes, there have been bumps along the road. But we've come out stronger and happier. It's even better now than when we were first married." Since their wedding day over two decades ago, the Beckhams have moved to Los Angeles and back again, picking up a close circle of A-list mates, a few millions in endorsement deals and Victoria's mega-successful eponymous fashion label.
