Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson made for a dapper groom in his glitzy wedding to longterm girlfriend Debbie Stanley - with photos from the big day now released.

The 64-year-old soap star - famous for playing Jim McDonald on the Cobbles from 1989 through to 2018 - swapped vows in front of family, friends and famous faces at Shrigley Hall Hotel & Spa in Macclesfield, Cheshire. And the happy couple were all smiles as they made life promises to each other before partying with their nearest and dearest.

Charlie looked sharp for his big day in a deep blue suit that had a subtle checked pattern, while pairing his outfit with a light blue shirt and smart tie. He attached some gypsophila flowers to the lapel of his suit jacket, donned a pair of smart shoes and flashed a winning smile as her spent the day celebrating.

Debbie looked elegant in a white dress which she paired with a chic white coat that had a long train-like effect, and walked down the aisle in a pair of open toed, strappy heels. She carried a huge bouquet made up of gypsophila flowers, and had her hair immaculately groomed for the ceremony.

A string of high profile stars were in attendance to watch Charlie and Debbie swap vows - with Coronation Street stars past and present including Vicky Entwistle, Alison King, Claire King and Kym Marsh all there. Charlie explained to OK! Magazine on Monday that he and Debbie had technically already married in secret ahead of the star-studded celebration.

He told the publication: “I just wanted to get on with it. Getting actors together is like herding cats. We could have done the wedding two weeks ago, but we had to see who could make it. On the day of the wedding, when we were preparing to fly in the helicopter, I was fed up with waiting – it couldn’t happen quick enough for me."

Meanwhile, best man Simon brought the audience to tears with a touching tribute to the couple in his best man’s speech. Charlie joked to OK!: "My great friend Neil Morrissey couldn’t make the wedding as he’s starring in a West End show, so Simon stepped in to fill the best man position – and I wasn’t remotely disappointed.” He added: “I’ve known Simon since he was 14, he’s a great friend and did a fantastic job."

And proud bride Debbie added: "Simon’s speech was unbelievable. He spends a lot of time at home with us so he knows us really well. He joked about some of the things he was going to say, and I told him, 'No, please don’t say things like that.' But he’s a comedian, so it was really funny. But everyone was crying at the emotional parts, too.”

Charlie also explained how Eamonn ended up presiding over the wedding. He revealed: "Eamonn and myself have both been in TV a long time and we've met over the years and become really good friends - we're very similar human beings. Famously, over the years, Eamonn has participated in lots of ceremonies – including George Best's funeral – and I couldn't think of anyone else better to oversee our wedding.”
