Alternative to champagne now cheaper than supermarket options
19 Crimes Sparkling White has dropped down to £8.89 in the Prime Big Deal Days sale, which is cheaper than you'll find in supermarkets such as Tesco, Morrison's or even The Bottle Club. The wine is made using Chardonnay, which is famously one of the three main grapes used in the Champagne region, and Columbard.
Chardonnay is one of the world's most popular grapes and is renowned for the buttery taste is has alongside fruity notes. Columbard is closely related to the Chenin Blanc grape and is often used to make Cognac.
The blend of wines together makes a straw yellow bottle of bubbly with notes of lemon zest and white stone fruits. It's recommended to pair this with fish and dishes with a healthy amount of fats so it would be perfect alongside fish and chips.
With the grapes hailing from South Eastern Australia it's not quite the same as champagne but it's not one for fans of the luxury drink to turn their nose up at. Shoppers who have tried it have been saying they'll definitely by another, with it pulling in five star reviews.
One wrote: "This wine is really lovely. It has a fruity taste and feels quite light to drink, not too overwhelming but very full of flavour at the same time. The wine feels crisp and the flavour is really well-defined. The sparkles make it even more refreshing.
Man in 30s dies after being stabbed in park sparking police probe"I am puzzled as to what's the best pairing with this wine - white wine usually goes well with fish but the crispness and sparkles of this one also feel very refreshing when paired with desserts. It’s nice to have wine that goes well with main and desert at same time. I don’t often find such a perfect match."
A second penned: "Personally I can take or leave Chardonnay normally but I think I'd take plenty of this 19 Crimes Sparkling Chardonnay and leave very little of it. This is very drinkable not-obviously-Chardonnay sparkling wine with a lot of fruit and bubbles and a surprising subtlety.
"It's like drinking naughty peach juice, the fruit is sweet and fresh but it's also 12% proof though that's not terribly high. I made the mistake of opening our bottle when we had visitors (I know, rookie mistake) so it really didn't last long and on a Summer's evening seemed the perfect thing to be drinking. Really good and worth a try."
A third added: "We had this on the night of my husbands birthday and were very impressed with this. 19 Crimes Sparkling White Wine had a lovely fruit flavour and a refreshing finish. Gentle bubble and not too fizzy. Budget price for high quality sparkling wine."
While wine doesn't always last for a long amount of time this sparkling is best to drink from the time of purchase for up to a year which makes the new sale price a good option for stocking up for special occasions over the next year, including Christmas. You can buy it for less than the typical £12 price tag now on Amazon.
