A new Starfield update has arrived this week, and it finally adds a basic feature to the game over a month after it first launched. As well as also sorting out a major progression bug in one of the games side quests.

Starfield arrived back in September and despite the game being primarily played in first person (you can play it in third person but the game defaults to first person during dialogue scenes) it lacked Field Of View(FOV) Sliders. Playing Starfield meant you were stuck to the default FOV that Bethesda had chosen on PC and Xbox, this led to players on PC creating mods which allowed players to change the FOV.

While FOV isn't something that most players will notice, it's a small change that will go a long way, for players who experience motion sickness with the current FOV setting in Starfield. Not to mention it's a fairly basic feature that is included in most first person games by default.

The update also fixed a major progression bug featured in the Echoes of the Past quest. During the quest there are tunneling creatures that were able to choose a location that would halt your progression during the mission and force you to reload a save. The patch notes also have the vague "Various additional stability and performance improvements" which should hopefully help the games performance improve on PC. Bethesda also says that Starfield update 1.7.36 includes Improved stability for Intel Arc GPUs.

The following is the entirety of the Starfield update 1.7.36 patch notes as posted by Bethesda on the Bethesda website :

General

  • FOV: Sliders are now available in Settings that allow players using first person or third person to adjust their FOV.

Performance and Stability

  • [PC ONLY] Improved stability for Intel Arc GPUs.
  • Various additional stability and performance improvements.

Quest

  • Echoes of the Past: Addressed an issue where tunneling creatures could pick a location that would prevent progression.

That's everything in this week's patch. It may not be the beefiest patch but at least it finally addressed some major issues with the game. Although if it took this long for basic features like FOV Sliders to be included it may be a while before Starfield is fully updated.
