A mum appeared to forget it was New Year's Eve when she burst into a rant about noisy fireworks.

The NYE grinch raged about hearing loud bangs at midnight which went on all night as revellers celebrated the beginning of 2023.

Rather than staying up to see in the new year, the mum-of-two was tucked up in bed by 11pm and then complained about being rudely awoken by the noise.

But despite her interrupted beauty sleep, her two children managed to sleep through the display.

"It was so, so loud I couldn't believe my two young children slept through it," the mum told Hull Live.

"I was thinking 'I wonder how many babies and dogs are getting woken up and feeling scared right now?'"

The fireworks began at midnight and continued for 25 minutes, according to the parent who woke several times throughout the noisy display.

She went on to say 'it's just not fair' after she was woken up and then had to get up at 6.30am the next day.

"I know it was New Year's Eve but it just seemed so over the top and unnecessary," she added.

"I wouldn't have minded a couple of bangers going off to see in the new year but it was extreme."

The mum said she heard more fireworks going off on Saturday night than she did on Bonfire Night.

She then went on to explain why she believes fireworks should only be allowed at big organised events.

"At least on Bonfire Night they are set off in the early evening and they don't go on all night," she continued.

"If you are going to a big organised New Year's Eve event then fair enough, you'd probably enjoy watching some fireworks at midnight.

"But I really don't think people should be allowed to just set them off in their garden in the middle of the night. It's just not fair."
