Coronation Street viewers 'mind blown' after hearing Stephen Reid actor's accent

Coronation Street viewers were left stunned after hearing Stephen Reid actor Todd Boyce's real voice on Monday night.

The ITV soap uploaded a video of some of the cast discussing the latest twist on the show, following a possible death. Stephen appeared to murder Tim Metcalfe in shocking scenes in the latest episode, attacking him and then leaving him for dead.

Actor Todd and Tim star Joe Duttine appeared in a backstage video together to reveal how they filmed some of the showdown, and the moment Stephen hits Tim over the head. Joe introduced his stunt double who filmed the moment Tim slams down onto the concrete.

Todd also spoke in the video about filming the sequence and his storyline, which comes to an end this week. But as the actor spoke, a number of viewers took to the comment section to share their surprise over Todd's real accent, with him sounding nothing like Stephen. Fans had thought all this time that the actor had the same accent as his character, only to learn this was not the case.

Stephen has a Canadian accent after spending much of his life in Canada. His accent is pretty strong, with viewers often commenting on it. So when actor Todd spoke in the video with an entirely different accent, viewers were "mind blown". In real life, Todd sounds more British with an American twang.

Posting their reactions on Instagram, viewers confessed they were shocked and had no idea about his real voice. One fan posted: "That's the first time hearing Todd Boyce' voice and I feel a bit weirded out." Another said: "HANG ON THAT ACCENT THREW ME," while a third fan tweeted: "Wasn’t expecting Todd to sound like that."

Another comment read: "Todd’s accent thought he was actually Canadian. Great work," while a fifth fan said: "Wow, Stephens accent!!!!" Todd is American and was born in Ohio, while he spent many years in Australia as well as the UK.

It comes as viewers wait to learn the fate of Stephen's latest victim Tim. Stephen was shown putting his lifeless body in the boot of his taxi before dousing the car in petrol. Fans will have to tune in this week to find out if Tim survives.
