Chris Eubank Jr's coach Brian 'BoMac' McIntyre has been handed a 20-month suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to gun charges.

The outcome of his sentencing means McIntyre is free to walk away from court after a lengthy hearing where undisputed welterweight world champion Terence Crawford was among those to give evidence in person. McIntyre's sentence has been suspended for a period of two years.

McIntyre was arrested by Greater Manchester Police last month when he was due to board a flight to Atlanta. The trainer was charged with possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.

He had been arrested by police after he attempted to board a plane with a gun in his checked luggage. McIntyre had just guided Eubank Jr to a dominant win in his rematch against Liam Smith after being knocked out by the Scouser at the beginning of the year.

Eubank Jr addressed McIntyre's arrest 10 days after the incident took place by telling The MMA Hour: "I can't talk too much on it because there's a lot of legal stuff going on right now.

I still don't even know how it happened, why it happened, it's a crazy, crazy situation. We're just going to pray that you can get him out of there and get him back to where he's supposed to be."

"He's a great trainer and he has a great team around him. I've never had a team before, I know that sounds insane but it is the truth, I've trained myself for many, many years and when I did have trainers it was just one guy. I trained with Roy Jones for a few years, he was supposed to train me for this fight but he couldn't do it."

McIntyre coaching Eubank Jr to victory against Smith came just a month after helping Terence Crawford become the undisputed welterweight champion. 'BoMac' had been criticised by his opposing coach in the build-up, but he got the last laugh as Crawford became the first boxer to be a two-weight undisputed champion in the four-belt era when he beat Errol Spence Jr in a one-sided showdown in Las Vegas.
