Dak Prescott has been told that he cannot be considered an elite quarterback after what he has shown so far this season.

The Dallas Cowboys have now been beaten badly in two of the last three weeks, after suffering a shock defeat to the Arizona Cardinals in Week 3, they were truly humbled by the San Francisco 49ers on "Sunday Night Football".

The Niners defeated the Cowboys 42-10, with Prescott throwing three interceptions and once again struggling to get the best out of his offensive skill players while putting his defensive unit in a tough position.

And Donte Whitner, an 11-year safety in the NFL, had some harsh words for Prescott after his struggles continued against the Niners.

Speaking on NBC Sports Bay Area & California's broadcast of the game, Whitner did not hold back.

"Dak Prescott sucks. Period. We talk so much about Prescott being a top-tier quarterback... a franchise guy and I just don't see it. I see them trying to cover up for what he lacks, I see a lot of quick throws and cutting half of the field off and giving him easy throws.

"He is not really a quarterback who can drop back and take advantage of a defensive weaknesses and carve them up. We have seen that.

"The 49ers defense made him look like a tier four quarterback."

Prescott and the Cowboys were up against a 49ers team in superb form on both sides of the ball with the win moving them to a perfect 5-0 for the season. But the Dallas quarterback was extremely down on his and the team's performance.

"We didn't see it coming. Put everything into this and got punched in the mouth. Called a couple weeks ago humbling against Arizona. But this may be the most humbling game I've ever been a part of.

"We felt good about the preparation, felt good about everything, honestly, coming into this game, and they beat us in every aspect."

Prescott came into the season stating that he would not throw 10 interceptions throughout the entire season, but having thrown three against the Niners he now has four on the season.

The offense could only manage 197 yards and did not have a first down until the second quarter. Meanwhile, the defensive unit allowed 420 yards and a whopping 6.3 yards per play - with the Niners resting many starters in the fourth quarter.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said: "It's a punch in the gut, it's a kick in the ass, whatever phrase you want to put on it. We've been knocked down. They beat us in all three phases. We will clearly acknowledge it."
