Louis Oosthuizen thinks LIV Golfers are treated unfairly in the world rankings

LIV Golf star Louis Oosthuizen has expressed frustration regarding the Official World Golf Rankings with players on the rival tour still being omitted.

Golfers who moved from the PGA Tour to the new LIV Golf league have experienced a significant drop in their rankings in the Official World Golf Rankings. This is mainly because LIV Golf competitions do not award any ranking points.

One notable example of this trend is Oosthuizen, who won the 2010 Open Championship but now sits at a lowly 390th in the OWGR standings. Oosthuizen was once ranked number four in the world.

"It's not a world ranking system," Oosthuizen told Bunkered. "You can say it's more PGA Tour ranking than anything else.

"It's frustrating for everyone because you used to measure yourself on that and where you are. It's not just being a LIV player. It's being a South African player on the Sunshine Tour, being in Asia, all over the world, you're not getting rankings now unless you're playing PGA Tour."

The South African native has recognised that most of the world's top players compete within the PGA Tour structure. Still, he maintained that the existing ranking system disproportionately advantages tour members at the expense of performance-based criteria.

"They do have the top players, but it's definitely not a fair system at the moment because you can't tell me there are 10 or 15 guys on LIV that are not in the top 50 or top 40. It's got to be looked at."

PGA Tour golfers are pushing for a more significant role in the consolidation agreement between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. According to Bloomberg, these players are actively seeking heightened authority within the newly established entity.

Meanwhile, LIV Golf participants are expressing discontent, and the prolonged finalisation of the deal is adding to growing apprehensions. Oosthuizen is among those impacted by the changes as he enters the 22nd year of his golf career having turned pro back in 2002.

As of 2023, Oosthuizen's estimated net worth ranges from £821,570 ($1M) to £4,084,965 ($5M). His income comes from tournament winnings, endorsements, and brand sponsorships. Footjoy, Ping, Scales apparel, Titleist, SwitchGrips, NetJets air travel, and SentinelOne cybersecurity currently sponsor Oosthuizen.
