Emmerdale viewers are in for some dramatic scenes in the coming weeks and months on the ITV soap, during stunt week and beyond.

A series of big twists are on the way including a deadly car crash stunt, the truth about a DNA bombshell and Lydia Dingle's rape ordeal comes to light. There's also kidnap drama and possible danger for residents, as super soap week gets underway.

But that isn't all, as Producer Laura Shaw shared what was on the cards, and some of our village favourites are set for huge scenes. From a new baby twist to a steamy affair and a massive health related storyline, residents will be kept busy in the final few months of 2023, and the start of 2024.

There's also a family tragedy on the way and some new arrivals, not to mention the return of a familiar face. The Dingles will take centre stage once more in a special set of episodes, while Christmas could also be eventful this time around. Here's what Laura revealed about the soap heading towards the end of 2023, with some epic new spoilers...

Dingle drama

Laura told The Mirror and other press: "We know they’re one of our favourite families in Soap and we’re going to be doing something a little bit special with the Dingles coming up. I think pretty much all the Dingles are going to be involved and the episodes were filmed in a slightly different way from our usual style and, true to its form, we’ve played with the format a little bit.

"There’s going to be lots of secrets being revealed and all the cast and crew that have been involved in the filming of it have been absolutely raving about it. Having seen the final episodes myself last week, I think it’s going to be very memorable."

New arrivals

Emmerdale boss teases baby twist, huge return, and family tragedy in spoilersLaura teased some new characters (ITV)

Laura teased some new characters, while confirming the arrival of Jai and Suni Sharma's father. She said: "We’ve got some new people joining us as well. You’re going to meet Anil Goutam who plays Amit shortly – a new character joining us as part of the Sharma family.

"Obviously, we found out not so long ago that Rishi was actually not Jai’s biological father, and actually Jai’s father is Amit, who is Rishi’s brother and Suni’s father. So, clearly, we weren’t going to leave that one hanging for too long before we brought Amit in. What you’ll see with Amit is quite a dark and complex character, and although we see Suni wanting to stick around, could Suni end up regretting that? Is Amit hiding another secret that threatens to blow the whole family apart?"

Health shock

Laura teased a new health plot was on the way for a fan favourite with difficult scenes ahead. She said: "We’ve got a big health storyline coming up that involves one of our most loved, well-known characters. I can’t say at this stage who it is, but it’s definitely going to have a huge impact on their lives and all the people around them, and we’re working closely with an amazing charity who have been guiding us every step of the way. It’s going to be quite a long storyline. It’s going to run over a period of months, years. Think along the lines of Ashley’s dementia storyline, it’s going to be like that."

Baby twist

Asides Dawn and Billy Fletcher's baby joy, there's another pregnancy shock on the way it seems. Laura said: "We all love a soap baby! We know that Dawn and Billy are pregnant and excitedly waiting for their baby, which is conveniently due around Christmas, as soap babies always are! It’s always either Christmas or Super Soap Week.

"But we do have another baby that is joining us. This one won’t quite be the happy news of Billy and Dawn though, and it’s going to be a huge shock for one of our couples in Emmerdale. It’s going to literally turn their lives upside down and result in a big fracture in what was once a very solid marriage. I’ll leave you to guess who that might be…"

Affair drama

Another big affair is on the cards too. Laura spilled: "We love an affair in soap, so we’ve got a very passionate, steamy affair coming up between two people, and one of them at the moment is seemingly very happily married. The affair is going to have huge repercussions. It’s going to affect a lot of our villagers.

"It’s also going to ultimately lead to a new arrival joining the show, which I can’t tell you about just yet because it won’t be until next year, but we’re very excited about it here. It’s going to be explosive, and that new arrival is going to cause uproar in the village."

Christmas hints

Christmas won't be a joyous event for some villagers this year. Laura told us: "Heading up to Christmas we’ve got some exciting plans but I have absolutely, definitely been sworn to secrecy on this one! What I can tell you is that the last couple of years, we’ve kind of done a light, fluffier Christmas for Emmerdale, but this one is quite different in tone. A lot of it is edgier for us for Christmas and I can tell you that definitely not every one of our villagers will be sat down eating their turkey with all the trimmings on Christmas day."

New Year spoilers

There's heartache, bombshells and twists already planned for the new year too, with Laura concluding: "Heading into the new year, we’re going to be introducing more exciting new characters – they’ll all be revealed nearer the time. We’ll be seeing a well-known face returning. We’ve got tragedy striking one family in the new year. We’ve got one or two of our villagers getting into very serious trouble, at least one of which may end up with them being sent to prison, but we’ll see!"
