INSPIRAL fully deserves her hot favourite’s status for the Group 1 Virgin Bet Sun Chariot Stakes (3.15) at Newmarket today.

Frankel’s daughter has four top-level triumphs to her name, and was back in business against the best at Deauville last time out.

Seeking back-to-back victories in the Prix Jacques le Marois, Frankie Dettori’s mount produced a power-packed finish to beat Big Rock by a length and a quarter.

The Rowley Mile, with its downhill descent into the Dip followed by a stiff uphill climb, isn’t every horse’s cup of tea.

But the John and Thady Gosden trainee took to the test like a duck to water when landing the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile over course and distance almost exactly two years ago.

Dettori needs just one more winner to reach 500 successes at the home of Flat racing, and Inspiral should ensure the Italian, who retires at the end of the year, reaches the milestone.

FRESH is fancied to rack up a fourth victory at Ascot by beating 17 opponents for the Howden Challenge Cup Handicap (3.35) in Royal Berkshire this afternoon.

The last of the six-year-old’s trio of Ascot successes came over course and distance 12 months ago when Fresh got up in the closing stages to beat Silent Film by a neck.

That win came from a British Horseracing Authority rating of 102 and, on the back of eight defeats in the interim, James Fanshawe’s six-year-old competes from a mark of 99 today.

My selection’s last two runs have come in competitive sprints over six furlongs at York and the Curragh and Fresh came home with gusto on both occasions.

The return to seven will play to the strengths of Jack Mitchell’s mount, who can take advantage of the assessor’s generosity.

After a near-miss at Leopardstown four weeks ago, AL AASY looks ripe for compensation in the Group 3 Jim Barry Cumberland Lodge Stakes (2.25).

The William Haggas-saddled son of Sea The Stars, seeking a hat-trick after scores in the Listed Steventon Stakes at Newbury and Haydock Park’s Group 3 Rose Of Lancaster Stakes, went under by half a length to Adelaide River in the Group 3 Paddy Power Stakes.

Not only did Al Aasy carry a penalty for his Newbury win – he shoulders an additional 3lb here - but he came from the back in a race captured by a horse who made all the running, and should go one better.

He has a few pounds to find with the principals but DARK TROOPER looks capable of giving a good account in the Group 3 John Guest Bengough Stakes (3.00).

Nine outings in 2023 have yielded six triumphs, including two over course and distance, and there should be more to come.

Emaraaty Ana is likely to head the market for the Group 3 Blue Eagle Rous Stakes (1.50) but the value my lie with NYMPHADORA , beaten a neck at this level at Newbury last time out.

Nymphadora’s trainer Andrew Balding is taken to notch an ITV4 double, set up by TOTNES in Newmarket’s opening British EBF Premier Fillies’ Handicap (1.30).

There’s a bit pot on offer for the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes (2.05) and the Gina Mangan-ridden ZOULU CHIEF is expected to take it home to Heather Main’s Oxfordshire base.

The ITV cameras are also rolling at Redcar, where DRAGON LEADER is hard to oppose in the Listed William Hill Two Year Old Trophy (2.45).
