Air fryers have become the must-have kitchen gadget in recent years, and with good reason. After all, they can be cheaper to run than a traditional oven, they're virtually mess-free and you can make heaps of easy family meals in under 30 minutes.

Those who are converted often joke that there's nothing you can't cook in an air fryer - and while that's not completely true, there are plenty of meals and dishes you may not have realised can be whipped up easily, from a full Sunday roast to an all-in-one brunch. (Just make sure you clean it properly afterwards!). We take a look at five meals that you may not know you can cook in an air fryer - check out our top picks below...

A Sunday roast

You can use an air fryer to cook most of the key components of a Sunday roast; the meat or veggie option, roast potatoes (and yes, you can get them crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle), Yorkshire puddings, roasted vegetables and other trimmings. One self-confessed 'air fryer girl' has even revealed how she cooks the perfect roast beef using the gadget. It's mainly the likes of gravy and other sauces where the air fryer won't do the trick.

All-in-one-brunch

There's a reason this is one of our top picks of the best family meals under 30 minutes you can cook in an air fryer. For a fuss-free quick and easy brunch you can combine has browns, spinach, chorizo, bacon and cheese for a delicious one-pot meal that's sure to be a hit with the whole family (or all of your friends if you've been dragged into hosting!). Bottomless bubbles will need to be provided separately though!

Pizza

One thrifty foodie previously revealed how she had made a pizza using her air fryer. Becky Excell, who regularly shares quick and easy budget cooking content with her fans, began with a "really simple two-ingredient yogurt dough" she describes as "literally foolproof". Using a mix of self-raising flour and Greek yoghurt she explained that she air fries the base for a few minutes, flips it, and then adds in the toppings to complete her meal. "Still super delicious as well as being so quick and easy to make. It's basically like a mini pizza oven," she explained.

Cauliflower mac and cheese

Mac and cheese is a classic if you're after a quick, fuss-free meal, and the good news is that you can actually cook it in an air fryer. While it is possible to cook dry pasta in the air fryer, we'd recommend boiling your pasta separately before you mix it in with the cauliflower, cream, butter and cheese in the air fryer. Throw in some bacon bits too if you're after an extra flavour!

Quiche

If you prefer a homemade quiche compared to those you can buy off the shelf, the air fryer can be an easy tool for making a delicious meal at home. Classic combos such as broccoli with thyme and cheese are always a win, but you can make pretty much most flavours depending on what you prefer. Don't have time to make one from scratch? You can use an air fryer to cook a shop-bought one, even from frozen!
