Corrie's Alison King breaks silence on co-star Chris Gascoyne's 'horrible' exit

Alison King has broken her silence on her Corrie co-star Chris Gascoyne's soap exit. The actor is bowing out of the popular ITV programme for "an extended break" more than 20 years after he first appeared in Coronation Street.

The Peter Barlow actor's exit storyline is apparently in the works, but Alison says it's "not for ages yet". Speaking to The Mirror and other news outlets, the Carla Connor actress confirmed: "We've got lots more of them [scenes] together."

On Gascoyne's departure, she added: "I hate it when he leaves me. It's horrible but luckily I just hand him over to his normal wife, let her have him for a bit and then he comes back and he can have his on-screen wife for a bit."

She said: "It never feels like we're far away from each other because we know each other so well now. It's alright, it'll be alright. It'll all come out in the wash." Ryan Connor actor Ryan Prescott also confirmed his co-star's exit with The Mirror.

While Corrie has yet to officially announce the news, actor Ryan exclusively told The Mirror that his co-star was definitely leaving, as he shared his sadness about the news. Speaking at The Inside Soap Awards, Ryan confirmed Chris' exit and praised his pal and said the show "won't be the same" without him.

He told us: "He's a fantastic actor to work with, Chris is the kind of person who could have gone off and done anything and he dedicated 20 odd years to the show, so to see him go it won't be the same show.

"I will miss him dearly. I will stay in touch with him but working with him every day is one of the best things about coming to work. He's one of those guys, he's a real actor in the sense that he is nitty gritty and he cares about his work, even after so long he cares about technique and whatever he's working with that day. He brings stuff to soap we don't always see."

He first appeared as Peter in 2000 and made a permanent return in 2016 after a few exits over the years. It's not yet known when or how he will leave the show, but actor Chris was confirmed for a new role earlier this year.

The star will be swapping the Manchester set for Saint Albans ahead of the upcoming pantomime season and will now be appearing at The Alban Arena. The theatre confirmed: "The Alban Arena are delighted to announce Coronation Street Legend Chris Gascoyne will star as Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan this pantomime season!

"The Alban Arena are delighted to announce Coronation Street Legend Chris Gascoyne will star as Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan this pantomime season. This promises to be our most spectacular pantomime yet with stunning sets, dazzling costumes, and a star-studded cast, this is a must-see show for the whole family.

"Don't miss your chance to experience the wonder and excitement of Neverland once more in Paul Hendy's pantomime sequel!" It's said Chris is taking the break to pursue other ventures, while the door has not been closed on a later return. It's thought he won't be killed off, while a return date is not yet in the pipeline. Peter remains on screen for the time being.
