At Smile Hair Clinic, there are two main types of hair transplant techniques that are on offer - Sapphire FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation).
The Sapphire technique refers to the type of blade that is used to create incisions in the recipient (balding) area of the scalp during the FUE method. The Sapphire blade is often used over a regular steel blade as it can be sharper and therefore could help to reduce the chances of scabbing and scarring caused by the surgery.
During the Sapphire FUE surgery, the grafts (group of hair follicles) are taken from the place on the scalp where the hair grows thickest, usually the beach of the head or neck. Once the grafts have been prepared, the surgeon uses the Sapphire blade to create incisions in the scalp for the hair follicles to be transplanted into. The grafts are then inserted into these incisions for the transplant to take place.
