PGMOL release controversial VAR audio as Liverpool give Cody Gakpo update
Liverpool will be aiming to extend their perfect start in the Europa League on Thursday as they take on Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise.
The Reds will be keen to get the attention back on the football as the fallout continues from their defeat at the hands of Tottenham. The PGMOL have been in touch with Jurgen Klopp’s men following the VAR controversy in North London.
Meanwhile, Liverpool have also been hit with a number of injury issues since that game so will be hoping they are not too serious. Take a look at all of the updates to come out of Anfield over the past 24 hours.
PGMOL release VAR audio
Referees’ bosses PGMOL have released the audio of VAR officials from Luis Diaz’s disallowed goal. Liverpool received the recording first after the club made a formal request to hear the audio from VAR Darren England and his assistant Dan Cook from Saturday’s highly controversial game.
The audio has now been made available to the public. Diaz’s goal was originally ruled out by the on-pitch decisions, that call being cleared by VAR. However, the PGMOL have since detailed that significant ‘human error’ led to the howler.
Chelsea complete record-breaking Enzo Fernandez transfer after deadline day rushEngland and Cook realised their error but were unable to intervene with the game being back in play by that time - forcing Diaz’s legitimate goal to be ruled out for a second time.

Liverpool give Gakpo update
While the refereeing drama dominated the headlines at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, another negative for Liverpool was the injury suffered by Cody Gakpo. The Dutch forward pulled up in the process of scoring the Reds’ equaliser.
He will be out for the Reds’ next two matches against USG and Brighton. The former PSV star is not expected to return until after the international break.
However, his injury is only expected to sideline him for a matter of weeks, softening fears that the problem could be even more serious. Gakpo has scored ten goals in 34 outings for the Red following his January arrival.

Reds given director option
Liverpool might have the chance to sign-up their preferred sporting director after Paul Mitchell’s Monaco departure. The Reds have been looking for a new long-term sporting director since Michael Edwards stepped down during the summer of 2022.
Mitchell was among the names to have been linked with a switch to Anfield ahead of Jorg Schmadtke’s temporary appointment. Monaco released a statement on Mitchell's exit. It read: "Paul Mitchell has helped to revitalise the club's sporting policy by implementing a number of changes, including qualification for the French Cup final and two European qualifiers in three seasons.”
