Corrie's Michael faces 'turmoil' as he's 'rocked' by devastating Stephen twist

Coronation Street star Ryan Russell has shared "turmoil" ahead for his character Michael Bailey, as a cruel trick by Stephen Reid could leave his life in tatters.

Next week, killer Stephen's horror reign comes to an end while it remains to be seen if he faces justice. Stephen plots his big escape as his crimes finally come to light, from murder to scams. One final crime leaves other residents in "turmoil" though, especially Michael who will be left blaming himself over a devastating twist.

Stephen manages to steal hundreds of thousands of pounds out of the factory, tricking coworker Michael into giving him his access code to the factory bank accounts. This allows him to transfer the full balance of Underworld’s account into a bogus one he has set up amid his plan to flee the country.

Michael is oblivious to what Stephen is up to, and gets the shock of his life when he learns the truth. Carla Connor, the factory owner, will be devastated by Stephen's latest actions fresh from her working out that he had drugged her with LSD for months. In the fallout, Michael will face guilt and could lose everything.

He told us: "You know, it's going to really rock him. I think Michael always beats himself up when something goes wrong. He'll blame himself before he blames anyone else, especially with the access code. He will be like, 'I missed it, I cost Underworld 100s of thousands of pounds'.

"He's thinking how am I going to repay them? The problem is his job is going to be in jeopardy. Carla's gonna bite his head off. So he's scared, he's scared at the minute." He went on: "I think he finally felt like he was progressing in life and was a success. Everyone kind of respects him at Underworld, so to lose that I think he'll be scared of going back to square one again, and then he's also got the added pressure of being a single dad. And financially it's gonna be very hard for him. So yes, a lot is on his mind."

On whether fans will see Michael back to himself in the future after the trouble regarding Stephen's actions, he spilled: "I think he might fall back into his old always again hopefully, I think I'd like that to play that kind of silly, wide-eyed bushy tailed Michael. To go through some turmoil and then bounce back. I think he's very resilient."
