Corrie's Carla betrays police in bid to bring down Stephen as Jenny 'in danger'

Coronation Street actress Alison King has teased Carla Connor goes against the police to ensure Stephen Reid is exposed in dramatic episodes next week.

The character takes on her nemesis after the discovery that he had drugged her for weeks earlier in the year, in a bid to steal the factory from her. Carla and her loved ones feared she was struggling with psychosis again, after a past mental health battle. But in recent scenes Carla learned she had been drugged with LSD, and eventually realised Stephen had to be the culprit.

Next week she remains convinced it was him but is told that without proof, the police cannot act on her claims. When she finds a printout of one way tickets to Thailand in the office printer she convinces DS Swain that Stephen is a flight risk, and Carla soon realises that the police are actually investigating the character.

She's sworn to secrecy though, and DS Swain tells Carla not to tell anyone about her theory or his potential trip out of Weatherfield, suggesting they are looking into his link to two recent deaths on the street. Fans know that Stephen killed Leo Thompkins, Teddy Thompkins and Rufus Donahue.

It seems the police are suspicious of this as Swain urges Carla to stay quiet and not derail her investigation. But Carla ignores this, fearing Stephen's partner Jenny Connor could be in danger, and she tells Jenny what she knows in a bid to stop her leaving with him. Clearly out to expose the character, will Carla do more harm than good?

There's a huge shock for Carla in the fallout to her confession to Jenny, as Stephen manages to steal hundreds of thousands of pounds out of the factory, with him tricking coworker Michael into giving him his access code to the factory bank accounts. This allows him to transfer the full balance of Underworld’s account into a bogus one he has set up amid his plan to flee the country.

Speaking to The Mirror and other press at a recent event, Carla actress Alison spilled all on Carla's vow to bring down Stephen. She told us: "The police say she needs more evidence, but she can't. She shouldn't be doing anything about it. She shouldn't make him suspicious, which of course she's gone and done straight away, hasn't she? So she has to backtrack on that and secretly suspect him but pretend to apologise which is really annoying."

On if Carla knows the danger she could be in, Alison went on: "I don't think she has any idea of just how dangerous he is. I think she thinks it's mainly all about money and business and that he wants to get that. I don't think she thinks he's particularly violent. She doesn't trust him, but I don't know whether she knows that.

"I don't think anyone thinks he is really capable of it at that point. I mean, obviously, he's got his hooks into Jenny and Swain is telling her not to alert her. Of course she does that. She loves Jenny. That's the first indication when Swain says don't mention it, don't do anything about it, don't let Stephen know you are onto him, and I say why, is he dangerous?

"So that's the first indication of course, she jumps to the conclusion that Jenny will be in danger because he's started a relationship with her and she feels really, really torn as to tell Jenny, she doesn't want any more deaths."
