New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers referred to Travis Kelce as “Mr. Pfizer” in a recent interview.

Rodgers was back in New Jersey with the team over the weekend as the Jets lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 23-20. But they kept Kelce quiet for the most part as the tight end failed to record a touchdown.

Kelce has been in the news of late amid continued rumours that he is dating singer/songwriter Taylor Swift. The singer was also in attendance at MetLife Stadium for the game — the second time she has watched Kelce play in the NFL in as many weeks.

During the game on Sunday night, Kelce also made the news after appearing in a new vaccine commercial. The advertisement, according to USA Today, is a paid partnership with Pfizer where he advises viewers to get the vaccination against COVID-19 and the flu.

Rodgers appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show" on Tuesday, where he was asked about his attendance at Sunday’s game. It was here that Rodgers analysed the game from a Jets perspective, and went on to label Kelce as “Mr. Pfizer.”

“We need to learn as an organisation that some things need to be kept in-house,” said Rodgers. “We have got to tighten the ship up a little bit.

“Because that’s what’s going to happen, we’re 1-3 and there will be people trying to get us to fracture. Even after a game where there is some sentiment of a moral victory out there that we hung out there with the [defending Super Bowl] champs.

“Our defense played well, [Patrick Mahomes] didn’t have a crazy game. Mr. Pfizer (Kelce), we kind of shut him down a little bit, he didn’t have a crazy-impact game.

“He had some yards and stuff, but I felt for the most part that we played tough on defense and the last three quarters, and that was important for us.”

Rodgers' comments led to laughter from McAfee, who then asked the quarterback about what was said in a meeting that was between himself and Kelce on the sidelines. The Jets quarterback insisted that what was said between himself and the Chiefs tight end will remain private.

“I think some things need to be left on the field,” said Rodgers. “It’s actually a better story, probably, left up to the imagination.

“I saw some stories of different things and speculation of what we were talking about, but I’ve known him for a long time and it was just a quick chat.”

Rodgers is currently on the sidelines recovering from an Achilles tendon injury he sustained in the Week One game against the Buffalo Bills. The veteran quarterback is expected to spend the remainder of the 2023 NFL regular season on the sidelines with the injury.

The 39-year-old underwent surgery on September 13 as he looks to recover as quickly as possible to get back out onto the field. Rodgers, who was out of a boot and in an air cast, was walking with the help of crutches on Sunday.
