A pair of American tourists were left stunned after being charged a whopping £438.42 for a single plate of pasta while holidaying in France.

Cassidy and Leah Armbruster, who share their travel experiences on TikTok under the handle @thevacationtwins, were taken aback by the exorbitant bill. The sisters, hailing from Wisconsin, USA, were enjoying a yacht trip around the harbour near the town of Eze in the south of France when they ordered the lobster pasta.

Despite expecting a touch of luxury given their location on the French Riviera in the Cote d'Azur region, the cost per dish was far beyond their expectations. One member of their party chose the lobster pasta from the boat's menu, but they failed to check the price beforehand, leading to their shock when presented with a 500 euro bill.

The sisters have since advised others to "live and learn" from their experience.

In a video shared on their social media platform, the sisters can be seen collecting a large plate of pasta from a small speedboat and bringing it onto their chartered yacht. The dish consisted of a generous serving of spaghetti and half of a freshly cooked lobster.

The caption accompanying the video read: "POV: Your friend orders lobster pasta on a boat and the bill is five hundred Euros." They added in the caption: "You live and you learn".

As they filmed their extravagant meal, they demonstrated how to extract the lobster meat from its shell before indulging in the dish. The high price tag of the meal sparked astonishment among viewers. One viewer commented: "Literally a lobster tail and spaghetti noodles on the side." Another chimed in: "About 20$ in ingredients."

A commenter suggested that the influencers should have negotiated the cost, but one of the sisters clarified that the price did not even include the cost of the boat used to deliver the food.

Fortunately, the sisters were not left to foot the bill as they revealed: "My friend paid before telling us the price." One fellow holidaymaker responded: "That's crazy I got the same meal on a catamaran in Santorini for 150 euros, y'all were robbed lol."

The high price tag left some claiming they would have "fainted", while others pointed out that the expensive meal was served on "paper plates". One person shared their experience of enjoying a seafood feast in Portugal for a fraction of the price, leaving a generous tip for the waiter. Others suggested that the inflated cost was simply the "tourist price".

It's always advisable to double-check prices when ordering in a foreign country. This is not the first instance of tourists reporting exorbitant prices during their European holidays. A tourist reported being charged a staggering £612 for four drinks and some food in Mykonos, Greece.

DK Oyster, located in Platys Gialos, Mykonos, is known for its cocktails, beers, and fresh seafood. However, it has previously faced criticism after a woman claimed she was charged £50 for a glass of lemonade. Another couple, Jessica Yarnall, 31, and Adam Hagaun, 30, allege they were presented with an 800 euro bill (approximately £710) for two drinks, four crab legs, and a salad at a notorious Greek restaurant. A third couple reported being charged £333 for a "quick snack" during their honeymoon.
