The father of Xander Schauffele has sensationally claimed that his son was nearly booted off the US Ryder Cup team over a dispute regarding Netflix crews having access to their dressing room.

The inquest is now well underway after Team USA ultimately fell to a 16.5-11.5 loss at Marco Simone versus their biennial rivals. Europe's sterling showing on the opening day would carry them through, despite the US rallying late on, as Luke Donald's team wrestled back the famous gold trophy.

Now, it appears that there was some consternation behind closed doors in the American camp prior to the tournament about plans for filming for the Netflix documentary "Full Swing". According to The Times, Schauffele could even have missed the tournament before a resolution was found.

The report contends that the 29-year-old's father has claimed that his son requested for a series of amendments to be made to a player bonus contract that he signed prior to the Ryder Cup. Among the suggestions put forward by Schauffele was a request in relation to the Netfiix filming plans.

Essentially, he is purported to have asked that any film crews would be prohibited from entering the Team USA locker room during the tournament. In the end, the players decided to agree to Schauffele's demands during a meeting that was chaired by captain Zach Johnson.

Explaining his side of how the episode is alleged to have played out, Schauffele's father revealed that his son was potentially faced with a situation of being thrown off the team. He asserted: "The PGA of America were not willing to even talk to us about [the requested amendments].'

"It was very late in the schedule right before the team came here to practice because they had moved the deadline and they said: 'If you don't sign it by then, you're off the team', but they never gave us the contact information of their legal counsel.

"Saturday morning of Labour Day weekend [September 2], finally, the head of the PGA of America got wind of this, because it was not him that was blocking it and put our lawyers in contact with the PGA of America's general counsel.

"And then it took a few hours to hash it out and it was fine. Then I received a message that Xander was back on the team. That you can quote. That's the extent of this and I think it's shameful."

He was subsequently paired with Patrick Cantlay for the Friday foursomes, with his teammate moving to quell any rumours of a rift in the camp. Speaking about the furore over his decision not to wear a cap at the tournament, he denied any speculation over in-fighting.

Speaking on Sunday evening, he told: "It's totally false - it couldn't be further from the truth. There hasn't been one word of that all week. The US team has been close all week. It's just outright lies."
