Meghan Markle has placed the Royal Family in the "rearview mirror of her life" after failing to "embrace their rules", a royal biographer has claimed. Since she and husband Prince Harry sensationally quit as working royals more than three years ago, Meghan has hit out at the royals several times - and even claimed one member of the family had questioned the colour of son Archie's skin before he was born.

However, after the release of Harry's controversial memoir Spare, reports suggested Meghan was keen to enter a new era in her working career, separate from her royal past. And according to biographer Andrew Morton, she has definitely "moved on".

The author behind the famous Princess Diana book, Her True Story, told Fox News : "Meghan is making her own life on the West Coast. The royal family is very much in the rearview mirror of her life. She’s moved on. From what I gather, Meghan is going to start a new, updated version of [her lifestyle website] The Tig. So I think [the Duke and Duchess of Sussex] got their own lives, and they’ve worked it out. And every day that passes, they’re more established in California."

Meanwhile, Mr Morton claimed Meghan's failure to embrace royal life, especially her frosty relationship with the Princess of Wales, was the catalyst for her departure from the Firm. He added: "I just feel that Meghan’s never really embraced the rules and rituals of the royal family. She didn’t understand that she had to curtsy to the queen in private. It’s no secret that there’s not much love lost between Kate and Meghan, and Meghan is making her own life on the West Coast."

Looking ahead to the future, it has long been thought that the Duchess of Sussex would favour a run for political office and reports had suggested she was being considered as a replacement for Dianne Feinstein, the veteran California Senator, who has died at the age of 90.

Previous reports suggested Meghan had been "networking among senior Democrats" with a view to building a grassroots campaign to help start her political career. The Duchess, according to reports, held a virtual hour-long meeting with California Governor Gavin Newsom with Prince Harry, but he opted for another candidate for Ms Feinstein's vacant seat - Laphonza Butler.

But according to royal expert and historian Dr Tessa Dunlop, it would be unwise to dismiss the idea of Meghan becoming a politician as she believes the duchess has "much going for her in the political arena". She told the Mirror: "Firstly there's Meghan's ability to learn a script and digest a brief. (Suits is testimony to that). Americans, particularly Californians, aren't averse to selecting their politicians from Tinsel Town – Ronald Reghan and Arnold Schwarzenegger were both governors of the state, albeit Republican ones, before the former went on to become president of the USA.

"Like Schwarzenegger, (and dare I say it, Trump!) Meghan has immense name recognition and considerable wealth – two vital assets in the US political system. Love her or loathe her, the duchess would be able to reach parts of the electorate that other politicians could only dream of. And these days California is predominantly Democratic – the perfect fit for a duchess who has long aligned herself with the centre-left. Remember the little girl who talked truth to power over a gender bias TV ad? Polling suggests many Democrats agree Meghan is the right fit for them."
