Radio star Zoe Ball's home rushed to by firefighters after she leaves candle lit

Zoe Ball revealed firefighters had to rush to her home after she left a candle burning in her empty house.

The 52-year-old appeared on her Radio 2 Breakfast show and told listeners: "Something that happened to me for the first time was that yesterday, the fire brigade went to my house. I had left a candle burning in the lounge. I was so obsessed with The Matrix and the fact that I had made a cake on Sunday, I had gone out and hadn't blown out one of the candles.

"It was left smouldering in the lounge and at 9.25am my smoke alarms went off and thank goodness! Otherwise I might have gone home to no home!" Zoe went on to thank the firefighters who helped make sure her house wasn't burned down by the accidental fire.

She added: "Thank you to my neighbour Abs and my gorgeous Em who called the fire brigade. And I'd like to give a big shout-out to Duncan and the Uckfield boys, Joe and Cameron and Steve, who went around, put out the candle and stopped my house from burning down."

According to fire safety advice, candles should never be left unattended and should be put out before going to bed. It should also be placed away from furniture, curtains, and anything flammable. People also shouldn't burn several candles close together as it could cause the flame to flare.

Zoe purchased the home she currently lives in for around £1.5million in 2020. The country mansion was built by a Russian aristocrat called Baron Vladimir de Wolff. It features six bedrooms and has a swimming pool, spacious tennis court and endless garden space for picnics and relaxation.

Earlier this year, it was reported Zoe was 'gutted' after reportedly splitting from her model boyfriend after a whirlwind five-year romance. The radio star was said to have gone her separate ways from model Michael Reed as he was believed to have moved out of their home.

The couple had been together for five years and lived in a sprawling home in East Sussex. A source claimed the relationship has "run its course" and says Zoe is "better off without Michael". They said: "Zoe is gutted but she’s better off without Michael. This is a relief to many of her friends, who think she has done the right thing.

“They had a wonderful romance at first and Michael was a real gent. But in recent months Zoe has started to find him a bit demanding," a source told The Sun.
