Corrie's Stephen Reid exit drama has 'wide-ranging consequences' for characters

Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod has teased huge consequences ahead in the fallout to Stephen Reid's exit from the ITV soap.

Killer Stephen, played by star Todd Boyce, bows out in dramatic scenes next week a year on from his first kill. But despite the character leaving the show, it seems the impact of his actions will remain as Weatherfield suffers the consequences of his actions, and his departure.

Stephen finally faces capture over his crimes, which range from fraud and money scams, to drugging Carla Connor and the murders of three residents. But he might have one more murder in mind as he takes brutal action against Tim Metcalfe, who uncovers his link to a recent death.

Speaking to press including The Mirror ahead of killer Stephen's dramatic exit storyline airing on the ITV soap, Corrie boss Iain teased several characters may be impacted by the events of the huge episodes ahead, while there are "exciting" scenes in the aftermath.

He told The Mirror and other press: "It's kind of like when you watch a movie... often the movie can end, and it's the end of the film. That's that and the protagonist walks off into the sunset as the credits roll. But soap doesn't end. It goes on and you need to have the sequel to the movie in your heads before you've even started telling the story of the first movie."

Iain went on: "There are wide-ranging consequences to Stephen's exit, emotionally, practically and criminally going forward. With that, you need to know what the season two of the TV series is before you've written season one. So in the grand tradition of sequels, I hope what you're about to see is the Godfather: Part Two, which is one of the best sequels ever. I'm confident we've nailed this - the consequences with crimes of this scale are inevitably going to be huge. It's going to be an exciting few months on Coronation Street."

It comes as spoilers revealed the unravelling of Stephen's lies as the truth finally comes out, with another gory discovery on the way. After Stephen's first victim Leo Thompkins’ body was found in a recent episode, the police began to investigate the disappearance of his father Teddy Thompkins. Viewers know he killed both of them, before murdering factory client Rufus Donahue. Stephen tried to bump off his partner Elaine Jones too for the insurance payout only to be rumbled by her son Tim, while no one believed his claims that he tried to steal from her especially after he accidentally attacked the villain.

But with Carla, Audrey and others all onto him, it's only a matter of time before Stephen's game is up. Teddy's body is discovered next week too, and it's not looking good for Stephen. Question is, will he manage to escape justice?
