This evening's mysterious Panorama broadcast this evening will air a report about fashion brand Abercrombie & Fitch. The TV investigation is expected to make claims that its ex-CEO allegedly exploited men recruited to sex events he hosted around the world.

The BBC sparked a social media frenzy last week when minimal details of an unexpected special edition of Panorama first emerged online ahead of this evening's broadcast. Last week it was announced that a new edition of Panorama is due to air tonight at 9pm - however, the subject of the hour long documentary was not revealed.

A synopsis that has appeared on BBC iPlayer this afternoon says the show is: "Panorama investigates allegations of exploitation and abuse at the top of one of the biggest fashion brands in the US."

It named former CEO Mike Jeffries - who transformed Abercrombie and Fitch "from a failing retail chain to a multi-billion dollar empire and the epitome of cool" - as the subject of its investigation.

It adds: "Now after months of painstaking investigation, reporter Rianna Croxford speaks to men who say they were recruited into a dark world."

The BBC says it made repeated attempts by letter, email, and phone over several weeks to contact Mr Jeffries inviting him to respond to a detailed list of allegations, but did not receive a response.

In a statement to the BBC, Abercrombie & Fitch - which considers Mr Jeffries its modern-day founder - said it was "appalled and disgusted" by his alleged behaviour. It added that new leadership has transformed the company into "the values-driven organization we are today" and it has "zero tolerance for abuse, harassment or discrimination of any kind".

The only details shared by the BBC at the time of the announcement last week were a very general overview of what Panorama is as a series. The BBC stated last week: "In-depth current affairs report covering a story behind the headlines." While the official BBC page dedicated to Panorama simply stated that the next episode would be a "special" edition of the investigative documentary.

Panorama's cryptic listing came in the wake of Channel 4 investigative documentary series Dispatches airing Russell Brand: In Plain Sight without releasing details of the programme ahead of the broadcast.
