Ex BBC broadcaster Joanna Gosling shares 'difficult' truth behind newsroom exit
Former BBC broadcaster Joanna Gosling revealed the reason she decided to leave the newsroom and become a family mediator.
The 52-year-old, who went through a 'horrible' time at the corporation, joined the BBC in 1999 but later left to work at the Irwin Mitchell law firm. She decided to leave the world of journalism behind when she became 'involved in conflict' while working at the company.
She revealed: "That was an extremely difficult time and I really felt like there should have been more collaborative conversations that were going on at that time." Speaking to The Telegraph, she added: "I also got divorced, so obviously, I had that midlife change also and that awareness of what goes on with that."
She decided to leave the world of journalism behind when she became 'involved in conflict' at the corporation (BBC)Going through a divorce as well as career difficulties, the decision to train in mediation was an easy one. Joanna can now 'be the person I wish had been there for me' as she enjoys her new life. Earlier this year, when the BBC was going through cuts, Joanna knew it was time to "do something different."
"I knew that I needed to do this, I was done with what I had been doing, I'd been doing it for 30 years. I'd absolutely loved it but it was definitely time to do something different," she said. Joanna was announced as a Senior Associate Mediator at legal and financial advisor Irwin Mitchell last month.

Joanna left the BBC at the start of the year after 23 years. The news presenter along with two colleagues David Eades and Tim Willcox were reported to have taken voluntary redundancy amid the BBC's plans to merge its international and UK news channels.
Announcing her exit on Twitter she penned: "You may have already heard, but I wanted to confirm, that I have decided to leave the BBC and will go off air on the 26th January. I am very grateful for the kind messages I’ve had from so many of you. I’m proud of my career in news." She declined to confirm her next move, simply adding: "Now it is time for new beginnings."
A post on the official Irwin Mitchell account announced her move to the firm. It read: "We’re delighted to welcome @JoannaGTWeets, joining Irwin Mitchell as a Senior Associate #Mediator. The former BBC News presenter is passionate about mediation and supporting clients and will be working with our #FamilyTeam to grow our mediation practice."
A quote from Joanna read: "I am passionate about helping people find a way through conflict. She added: "I am passionate about the use of mediation to resolve conflict and transform relationship dynamics. If you want me to mediate for you, you know where to find me! I will continue to present my Sunday show on Classic fm."
