A single woman walked the streets of New York with a ‘Looking for a Husband’ sign after she got fed up of dating apps.

Model and influencer Karolina Geits, 29, said she had to turn men down in the end after her video went viral with 13.2million views. She had grown tired of dating apps and struggled to find a partner this year so took to the streets.

Karolina came up with the idea after discussing with her friend over dinner about how difficult it was to find someone in 2023, especially in New York. She and her friend both agreed that with many dating apps it’s difficult to get past the talking stage which usually means it leads to nowhere.

So, as a joke, Karolina and her friend decided they would go out and film Karolina walking through the streets of New York with a ‘Looking for a Husband’ sign to try and meet ‘the one’. Karolina never thought it would pay off so well, with her even receiving marriage proposals, hundreds of offers and DMs from men responding to her ‘Looking for a Husband’ sign.

Although she has received many offers from men in relation to her stunt, she says she is yet to find one that sticks as she is yet to find a meaningful relationship. Even more important to Karolina however, was that she was able to meet new people and friends through this stunt, as she described how she felt incredibly lonely when she first moved to New York and struggled to meet new people.

Although the objective of her video was to find herself a husband, Karolina states that having women approach her and be really positive about it has been more beneficial than the men approaching her asking for her hand in marriage.

“When I go outside with the sign, people’s reactions are super nice and positive,” she said. “Guys are giving me their number, sending me a DM and girls come up and say that they need it too.

“Women are created for love, for admiration, for adoration, so that we can be protected and every woman should understand that she is a Goddess. If every woman realises and accepts herself and is in love and harmony with herself, amazing changes await her.”

Not only has Karolina received positive reactions in public, but also through social media as women praise her confidence and agree with Karolina about the struggles of finding a relationship on a dating app. Examples of comments Karolina receives daily on her video include: “I like this. I will try to find a husband like this”, “You go girl, can we start a whole movement. Women tell them what you want campaign”, “I need this confidence”, and “seems more safe than the apps”.

The success of her video has seen Karolina with a plethora of new followers and she is now even discussing creating a dating app that bypasses the constant messaging and focuses on meeting in-person.

“When I just arrived in New York, I felt so lonely,” she said. It’s taken me almost three years to make friends, I'm not even talking about any relationships. Yes I’ve been in relationships but they didn't end successfully. That's why I’m looking for the best.

“It really works, I made new friends with whom I spend time with. When meeting me personally, people have a positive reaction. I enjoy making people smile.”

However, not every interaction Karolina has had has been positive, with some people taking her joke very seriously online.

“There are two groups of people- one are the haters, the other one are those who take it as a joke,” she said. "And an interesting thing is that people who left negative comments were mainly those who read mass media. I also received support from women from all over the world.”

Karolina now has over 5.1million likes on her TikTok account and nearly 200,000 followers on Instagram, and is planning to use her new-found popularity to create a dating app that focuses on meeting in-person rather than relying on messaging that never amounts to anything.

“I’m planning to make more of these types of videos,” she said. “Also, I’m planning on making a reel series on TikTok featuring different people who want to find someone. I want to see how that goes and create an app, but not the one where you spend hours messaging back and forth. But the one where you can meet the person right away. I make all the videos to make people smile, and positivity will save the world.”
