Laurence Fox's 'vile' comments were ‘unforgivable’ says Ava Evans after apology

Ava Evans has described the comments made about her by Laurence Fox on GB News earlier this week as unforgivable' after the presenter took to Twitter to issue a 15-minute apology video on Thursday evening.

Actor-turned-politician Fox, 45, has been suspended by the channel after he made a series of comments about the political correspondent on Tuesday, including asking “who would want to shag that?”. The GB News programme’s host Dan Wootton has also been suspended with the channel confirming on Friday that Calvin Robinson has also been suspended after showing support on social media for his fellow presenter.

After issuing an apology to Ava, where Fox said that he regrets using the word 'shag' in his rant, Ava has now condemned his apology, insisting that his hurtful words were unforgivable.

In his vicious rant, Fox mocked Evans and publicly humiliated her. He asked the offensive question: "Who'd want to shag that?" He also described Ms Evans as a "little woman" and declared: "We don't need these sort of feminist 4.0" who he said are"pathetic and embarrassing".

Taking to Twitter on Thursday evening, Fox said he knows that GB News are going to sack him, but that he wanted to clear his own conscience by apologising to Ava Evans for using the word 'shag' in his rant. However, he said that he did stand by what he said in telling all self-respecting men to 'run a mile' from her.

After hearing his apology, Evans was having none of it. "It would have been horrible for a woman to hear she was being discussed in those terms in the pub. I’m not naive. I know that men talk like that about women. But this was on national TV. It was demeaning. It was dehumanising," she said. "As if it was an option for him to have sex with me. As if men get to look at you and decide if they want to… Unforgivable.”

Evans confessed that the worst part about the whole ordeal was explaining it to her father. She told Mail Online: “My dad was just confused. He said: ‘But why would he say this? Have you dated him?’ He just didn’t get it. My parents didn’t go to university. They have ordinary jobs and have always been so proud of what I do and have achieved. Why should my choice of career - political reporting - mean I have to contend with this?”

Ava shared the viral clip from GB News onto her own social media, which has been viewed more than 6 million times, as she wrote: "Laurence Fox just did a whole speech on GB News on why men apparently won’t shag me?" In a follow up tweet she added that the footage made her feel "physically sick".
