Adam Thomas has revealed that he was forced to miss a whole day of training before tonight's Strictly show - which will also see the first celebrity booted off the BBC show.

The former Emmerdale star, who is paired with professional dancer Luba Mushtuk, is set to perform a Tango to 'Somebody Told Me' by Måneskin. But ahead of this evening, the 35 year old admitted that he had been forced to ditch training for work as he's currently filming Waterloo Road.

He currently stars as Donte in the BBC series alongside Kym Marsh and Angela Griffin after the show was rebooted last year after it was axed in 2015. Sharing a photo of Donte's clothes on a rail, Adam wrote: "Missing a days training today... but it's all worth it. Work is work! Let's go Donte!!!"

It comes after Luba was brutally slammed by former Strictly pro Brendan Cole, who called her first choreographed dance withe Adam "average" and "dull". Speaking to Sky Bingo earlier this week he said: "I think ( Adam Thomas ') partner needs to do better. "

He added: "I didn't like the choreography choice. I didn't like the set to start the show. I mean, that could be production intervening and going, 'We want this', but for me it lacked, it seemed like an average routine." He continued: "It was opening the show so that was kind of odd. I was pleased to watch him because he's really nice to watch, but at the end, it was kind of dull, but I don't think it's his fault."

Adam, 35, was faced with the daunting task of opening the show but failed to impress the judges who only scored him 19 points on the leaderboard. Keen to reiterate that he was simply providing professional criticism, Brendan stated that it was not Adam's fault that his dance routine fell short.

He said: "She should be really good, but I just didn't think that was a strong enough start for the show. So many things come into it – quite often you don't get the music choice you want because production wants you to do a certain thing."

Adam, who is married to wife Caroline, also previously joked that the "Strictly curse has happened". Appearing on his brothers Ryan and Scott's podcast, Mancs on the Mic, Adam opened up about his experience on the show as well as some backstage gossip. Shocking his siblings, the actor said: "The Strictly curse has happened. I know...I couldn't believe it myself but me and Luba...."

Before his brothers had a miniature heart attack, Adam quickly quipped: "I'm joking," as Ryan and Scott gasped and laughed at the cheeky joke. Scott soon added: "Everyone says Luba looks like Caroline." Adam agreed with the comparison and replied: "She does...she does."
