Doctor 'gave wife so many painkillers she started seeing frogs' before death'
A doctor accused of poisoning his wife reportedly gave her so many painkillers that she saw hallucinations of frogs crawling across her bedroom walls.
Five years after his wife died at Lenox Hill Hospital while visiting New York City, Dr. Jeffrey Harris, 59, is on trial for manslaughter in Manhattan Supreme Court; the death was later declared a homicide. Tammy Harris, 55, was found to have tragically overdosed on the nutritional supplement selenium, which authorities claim was given to her by her doctor husband.
He is accused of giving her a medicine combination to address inexplicable aches and pains that she started suffering in 2017.
The quack's reckless actions resulted in his wife's death (Getty Images/iStockphoto)“There was one night where Jeff had given mum so much pain medication that she started seeing frogs jumping on her walls in the bedroom,” Tammy’s 41-year-old daughter Sarah Hopkins-Hubbard, testified on the second day of trial this week.
Even though Tammy had been diagnosed with lupus by a number of medical professionals, Jeffrey, an internal medicine specialist, refused to accept the diagnosis and started treating her on his own, allegedly directly causing her death on February 28, 2018, according to the prosecution, the Post reported.

Sarah, who is from Oregon, described in terrible detail how her mother's condition deteriorated, but Jeffrey continued to administer homoeopathic medications to her even after she spent time in a Spokane hospital. “Mom had been yellow and turning orange for about three weeks. The yellowing-orange colour was just getting worse,” she said.

Furthermore, the woman's gums had started becoming black. In response, Jeffrey allegedly prescribed her 20 cilantro pills daily in addition to other medications because he didn't believe a hospital could adequately care for his wife, according to the quack's stepdaughter.
“I’m obviously concerned. He’s a doctor — and I’m living with them. And you come up to him like, ‘Why would you give her so much that she would hallucinate?’ Like, knowing you’re a doctor and knowing how much to prescribe when it becomes dangerous. I just don’t understand.”
After being married for 11 years, Jeffrey and Tammy eventually made their way to New York City in the early months of 2018 in search of an alternate medical facility to supplement her care. According to the prosecution, the Salerno Center, the organization they located, even recommended against the Selenium dosage Jeffrey was giving his wife.
Tammy passed out at their hotel while they were travelling, and Jeffrey rushed her to the hospital. She died six days later.
