Strictly Come Dancing star to pay 'perfect tribute' to mum with sweet gesture

As Nikita Kanda prepares to wow the judges on Strictly Come Dancing on tomorrow's live show, she has revealed that her song choice is set to be her driving force.

The 28-year-old star, who found fame on the Asian Network, is dancing the Charleston to Beyonce's Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It). And she proudly revealed on the BBC spin-off show, It Takes Two, that it is an emotional tribute to her mother who is a single parent. She told viewers: "I am dedicating this one to my mum. She is the single woman in my life.."

She said: "She brought me and my sister up on her own. So, this one is going out to all the single parents out there that have done everything for their kids. I feel like this is the perfect tribute to my mum." Nikita also extended her praise to her professional dance partner Gorka Marquez after he welcomed his second child with his partner Gemma Atkinson, who he met on the show in 2017.

Speaking of her connection with her dance partner, she added: "I am so glad that I have got Gorka. He has got so much patience with me. I feel like I am his third child. He has got another kid now."After finding out that she had been partnered with Gorka, Nikita took to social media to tell her followers: "TEAM GORKITA!!!! I’m literally having the best time and so many laughs with @gorka_marquez I couldn’t wish for a better partner to be on this journey with."

The radio star found herself at the bottom of the leaderboard alongside comedian Les Dennis in last week's show and Strictly fans are convinced that either of the stars will be axed from the show tomorrow night. Fans posted their comments on Reddit. One said: "Nikita, Zara and Les are in the danger zone for me. Les' saving grace is that he has a memorable song and is a national treasure. On the other hand, a weak Charleston is a death sentence as we saw last series..."

Another said: "Deploying the Emergency Charleston early!" And a third said: "Only week 2 but Zara and Nikita both already feel in need of a breakthrough dance or I suspect they’re on very limited time." Meanwhile a fourth added: "I think Nikita will be in the bottom two with Les or Zara this week." However, others appeared to be more concerned that pro dancer Gorka Marquez would quit the BBC show if he goes out early with Nikita.

Another fan wrote on the discussion website: "Anyone else have a feeling that Gorka will call it a day after this series if he’s out early doors with Nikita? I was quite surprised he came back this year after he seemed so devastated not to win in 2022, but I’ll be really gutted if he does leave as I see him as one of the best pro dancers and choreo."

But resilient as ever, Nikita took to her social media to reveal her pride in completing week one of the dance show. She wrote: "OMG WEEK 1 DONE still can’t believe I’ve danced live on the tele! What an experience. This is the most overwhelming, exposing, out of my comfort zone thing that I’ve ever done but I’m loving every minute with @gorka_marquez thank you for being so kind & patient with me, especially with my nerves last night. Roll on week 2." And Gorka commented: "You did yourself proud! It’s my pleasure partner! Can’t wait for next week's laughs."
