A woman said she was stunned to find a banana that was twice as thick as a standard one - so she decided to compare them.

Bubu, from Albacete, Spain, took a picture of the fruit, which looks bigger than usual, and placed it to a normal one. She published the photo on social media, writing: "I'm just stopping by to show off the thickest banana I've ever seen."

The post attracted a host of cheeky responses, but some people were also left curious as they had never seen a banana that size before. One local asked: "That's two bananas inside there, right?" Bubu replied: "I haven't opened it yet, it's still a mystery."

One person named Rose posted a gif of a flustered nun with the question: "Where did you say you bought it?" Mariano remarked: "That photo gives rise to many jokes." Carlos joked: "That's not a banana, it's a potential potassium brick."

Despite not yet unpeeling the fruit, it appears to be a twin banana. Also known as a double banana, which is simply two fruits that have grown together from a single flower.

According to experts, around 5% of bananas can grow into "double fingers" but most are discarded. While they are understood to be very rare, in some cases people have reported seeing four-finger bananas too.

Years ago, we reported that a bizarre tomato was grown by a group of off-the-wall gardeners who made it resemble a rubber duck. With its "wings" outstretched and the traditional yellow colour, it looked incredibly similar to the popular bath toy.

The bizarre fruit was picked by staff at the People and Gardens Nursery, which helps people with learning disabilities and mental health issues develop work and social skills. The team, based in St Austell, Cornwall, grows fruit and vegetables that go in "veg bags" to be delivered locally.

And when they went to pick the crop they were stunned by its unusual shape. Manager Ken Radford said: "We picked the tomato off one of our plants. We get all sorts of shapes and sizes but this was particularly unusual.

"If you look at it from certain angles it looks like a mouse but it also looks like a duck. We just thought we'd have a little bit of fun. We said on Facebook we're looking to grow different animals and interestingly enough a few people believed it."
