Trousers, jackets, and dresses are the top clothing items – that women feel would benefit from having more pockets, research has found.

Fashion-savvy women wish their skirts (34%) and shorts (23%) were designed with more in-built storage – while 41% would love to frolic about in a frock with their hands tucked away.

The poll of 2,000 women found that 90% feel a lack of pockets renders most ladies' clothing “completely impractical” – and 45% are left raging over fake pockets.

As a result, almost three in five admit they are envious of men's fashion, because of the number of pockets they have. And 47% believe this is a waste, as men don't even find a proper use for all the compartments in their clothing.

Consequently, over half of women (53%) are desperate for retailers and brands to offer women better options – like they do with men.

The research was commissioned by Candy Crush, which has teamed up with designer Christian Cowan to create a pin-on pocket which can be fixed to any garment – and is debuting at Paris Fashion Week.

He said: “For decades, pockets have been notoriously ignored by designers and excluded from women’s clothing, but fashion today begs for them.

“It’s no secret that my collections are typically out of the ordinary – but alongside the Candy Crush team, I was jazzed to make something both camp and practical, that takes an otherwise ordinary outfit and makes it something elevated.”

The results also found 46% believe there’s no such thing as too many pockets when it comes to fashion.

And aside from looking good, six in ten feel pockets are one of the most practical assets on a piece of clothing – as half of those polled would love to not have to carry a handbag with them.

Being able to carry their phone in their pockets would be a dream come true for 65%, with 77% believing that being able to keep their phones on their person while in public would make things so much easier.

Luken Aragon, from Candy Crush, said: “Partnering with Christian has given us the opportunity to provide our fans with a way to express their love for the game, in style.”
