Multiple buildings engulfed by fire as flames seen for miles around

A massive fire has broken out at a famous port with multiple buildings engulfed by flames - as a community is said to have "suffered a terrible loss".

A restaurant and general store are among the buildings up in flames as a fire has "ravaged the waterfront overnight" and it is said to involve a boat line. The fire has taken hold in Port Clyde in St George, Knox County, Tennessee and properties have been "devastated".

Several fire crews from multiple towns rushed to the scene overnight, as the fire took hold along the waterfront. It seemed to start at the Port Clyde General Store and spread to the Monhegan Boat Line and Dip Net Restaurant. The St George Fire Department and Lakes Region Maine Fire Rescue has urged people to stay out of Port Clyde to keep out of the way as trucks rush to the scene to deliver water.

Terrifying images show roaring flames engulfing the historic buildings while the extent of the fire can be seen from miles away in another image. The fire service referred to it as a "devastating , multiple alarm fire".

Port Clyde Kayaks and Standup Paddle wrote in a Facebook post: "Our community suffered a terrible loss last night in the fire that ravaged the waterfront overnight. We are all thankful for the emergency responders. This community is strong and will recover. Thank you to those who reached out. We at PCK are all ok, but our neighbors have had much devastation to their property."

The fire service tweeted: "St. George - Knox County - Multiple Alarm Fire - Port Clyde - Cold Storage Road, fire involving Moheagan Boat Line, Dip Net Restaurant, Port Clyde General Store. Mutual Aid: Cushing, Warren. Thomaston. South Thomaston, Rockport, Camden, Owl's Head, Friendship, Hope."

They added: "*St. George Fire/Rescue* More to come on the devastating fire in Port Clyde, but what we need right now is for everyone to STAY OUT OF PORT CLYDE. This includes Factory Rd- we have trucks relaying water that we need on scene and cannot afford to have personal vehicles in our way."
