There's a new horror movie that’s so disturbing that people are leaving the cinema to vomit.

The film in question, The Outwaters, was released just over three weeks ago, and viewers are already being affected en masse by the film’s sights and sounds.

It has even been reported that the movie has tipped over Apple Watch heart rate monitors and induced anxious spells during its one hour and 40 minute runtime.

As per the movie synopsis, the movie sees “an excursion to the Mojave Desert turning creepy when a group of campers starts to experience unexplained sounds, vibrations and unnatural animal behaviour.

“Then one night everything changes, sending the foursome on a mind-bending trip through terror.”

But viewers who managed to make it through the undoubtedly hair-raising film - which was directed by Robbie Banfitch - have quickly flocked to Twitter to share their experiences.

“The Outwaters is the first film to give me nightmares since childhood,” one viewer bravely admitted, while another added that they’re still “processing” the movie.

“I am not sure if it worked for me,” they wrote.

Meanwhile, someone else admitted: "The sound made me so uncomfortably dizzy that I had to leave the theatre to vomit. This never happened to me before.

"It's more disturbing than scary if that makes any sense,” added another.

But despite viewers being unable to stomach the film at times, the film has garnered an impressive 71% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes, whilst it’s also earned a healthy 60% rating from the audience on the site.

In fact, Noel Murray from the Los Angeles Times wrote of the movie: Some may find all this tedious or confusing, but there’s an admirable integrity to Banfitch’s approach. The Outwaters genuinely feels like a first-person perspective on the end of the world.

Just don’t forget your anti-nausea tablets if you’re planning on watching the movie.
