Woman walks across motorway and over central reservation just to visit IKEA

A determined shopper is filmed staggering across live lanes of a busy motorway - just to reach an IKEA store.

In the clip shared on TikTok, the woman ambles through overgrown greenery on the side of the motorway, and climbs over the roadside barrier to skip across the road. She's seen carefully walking along the central reservation before making it successfully to the furniture store.

Since it was posted on the social media site two days ago, the video has been liked by more than 700,000 viewers and shared thousands of times. It has divided opinion, with some expressing sympathy for the woman as they claim most IKEAs are usually only accessible by car.

Another woman, who says she doesn't drive, wrote: "IKEA is always in locations by motorways for cars." Another shared: "Why is it like this at every IKEA, always off the highways?" The original poster confirmed, among the comments, this particular branch is in Turin, Italy. Another viewer responded with: "They always put them in the most inaccessible areas."

Others teased the original poster, with some joking she was desperate for IKEA's iconic meatballs. One man posted: "The things we do for IKEA meatballs." Another said: "How did you get all your items back?" To which, other TikTok users suggested the only way would have been in a taxi at an expensive cost.

Although the woman gets dangerously close to cars, few TikTok users raised concerns for her safety. Some even admitted walking across motorways themselves to get to their nearest IKEA, and other shops as they too do not drive.

There are more than 400 branches of IKEA across 62 countries, including 22 in the UK and 20 in Sweden, where the furniture store was founded in 1983. Its largest store - Stockholm - covers a staggering 55,221 square meters.

In the summer, the chain hosted car boot sale-style events where shoppers were able to buy second-hand furniture. It asked members of the public to come along and flog their unwanted furniture in Cardiff and Milton Keynes. Mirror has contacted IKEA for comment about the TikTok video, and claims its stores are hard to reach.
