Microsoft's newest Surface laptops are here with a huge software boost but one will set you back thousands of pounds

Microsoft is bringing the fight to Apple with two brand-new laptops – the Surface Laptop Go 3 and Surface Laptop Studio 2.

These shiny new Windows 11 machines, which were unveiled last week during an event in New York, are available to pre-order in the UK ahead of their launch next month. Eager fans who press the "Order Now" button can expect delivery as soon as October 3, the same date the devices will launch to buy in high street stores.

  • Don't need the latest from Microsoft?

Alongside the new hardware, Microsoft used the event to announce a dramatic update to Windows 11 that will bring its AI-powered Copilot to every part of the operating system. Powered by ChatGTP, this new assistant can draft emails, summarise long documents, create To Do lists and reminders, and much more.

Both Surface Laptop Studio 2 and Surface Laptop Go 3 arrive with faster processors. These can be recharged via the magnetic Surface Connector, which snaps to the side of the laptop, or USB-C – handy if you want to pack a single cable and plug for your next trip.

As the lightest and most affordable device, the new Surface Laptop Go 3 starts from £799. For that, you'll get their hands on a 12.4-inch PixelSense touchscreen, 15 hours of battery life, fast-charging, and a speedier processor.

If you want the ultimate portable PC from Microsoft, the Surface Laptop Studio 2 arrives with an eye-watering £2,066 price tag. Fitted with a larger 14.4-inch screen, Intel 13th Gen i7 processor with "twice the computing power" of its predecessor, and a Surface Pen accessory for handwritten notes on the screen.

To help you make your choice we've dotted down a few of the all-important new specs, which you can see below.

If getting your hands on the latest new product isn't a top priority then we'd also recommend the older Microsoft Surface Go 2, which is currently on offer with £130 off at Currys.

Surface Laptop Go 3

  • 12.4-inch PixelSense touchscreen
  • 15-hour battery life
  • Built-in HD camera and dual studio mics

As the cheapest model out of the two new devices, some shoppers could have the misconception it's not as good as the bigger and much pricier Studio 2. That's where this compact, yet powerful, new model really shows what it is capable of. The Go 3 is packed with the 12th-gen Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM.

It's 12.4-inch screen size carries over from the previous Go 2 model, but huge moves have been made to make it the lightest device in Microsoft's Surface range weighing just over 1Kg - so perfect for carrying around.

The Surface Laptop Studio 2

  • 14.4” PixelSense™ Flow touchscreen

  • Up to 2x more graphics power

  • An all-day battery life

  • Fitted with a dynamic hinge – so you can adjust between laptop and tablet mode

Onto the more expensive Surface Laptop Studio 2 and shoppers who cave an extra £1,270 for this model will get quicker speeds, storage, screen size and battery life. One outstanding feature compared to its fellow new rival (the Surface Go 3) is its 13th-gen Intel Core i7 H-class processor which will pack more of a punch.

It comes with 16GB of RAM (double the amount of the Go 3) and has 512 GB of SSD storage. It's biggest selling point, however, may come with its new flexible design which'll transform users screens from a classic 'clam' open and shut screen to an adjustable screen, thanks to its easel flex-hinge.

This simply means users will be able to transform their laptop from a traditional style laptop into a flat-laying tablet screen and a host of different screen angles on the slidable hinge.
