Oregon's pre-game speech rivaled Deion Sanders early season hype talk
Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning’s pre-game speech against the Colorado Buffaloes went viral across social media - taking on Deion Sanders at his own game.
Saturday saw Oregon take on Colorado in the Pac-12 divisional match-up in NCAA college football. And the game turned into a big win for the Ducks and a disappointing loss for the Buffaloes. who had won each of their first three games.
Oregon claimed a 42-6 win over Colorado at Autzen Stadium. The Ducks held a 35-0 lead at halftime and were 42-0 in front at the end of the third quarter, with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders completing a touchdown pass to Michael Harrison with less than three minutes remaining in the game.
It was Colorado’s first loss of the season and the first since Deion Sanders became the team’s new head coach. For Oregon and Lanning, the team is now 4-0 and has scored 216 points across the opening four games.
Before the game, Lanning gave a speech in the locker room which was filmed and posted on Twitter by ESPN. The video went viral, with the Oregon head coach using Colorado’s recent fame to motivate his players.

“Today, we talk with our pads. You talk with your helmet. Every moment. The Cinderella story is over man,” Lanning said in front of the team.
“They're fighting for clicks, we're fighting for wins. There's a difference. This game isn't gonna be played in Hollywood, it's gonna be played on the grass.”
That was not the first time that Lanning’s comments made headlines. At half-time, with the score 35-0 in favor of Oregon, Lanning made a further declaration of his desire for his team to continue pressing home their advantage against Colorado.
“We're not done yet," Lanning said in an interview. "We're not satisfied. I hope everyone that's been watching (Colorado) every week is still watching.”
Lanning’s comments came after Sanders made headlines for his pre-game speeches ahead of the in-state school rivalry game against Colorado State on September 17. The Buffaloes claimed a 43-35 in overtime, a game that saw star wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter requiring hospital treatment.
Before that game, Sanders began using the phrase “it’s personal” to motivate his players. The phrase came after Colorado State head coach Jay Norvell made comments in relation to Sanders’ choice of attire during interviews, namely wearing a hat and sunglasses.
Next up for Oregon is a road game against Stanford on September 30. For Sanders and Colorado, next week will see the team return to Folsom Field to face No.5 USC.
