New York Jets assistant coach Keith Carter has taken responsibility for Aaron Rodgers' devastating Achilles injury just four plays into the new NFL season.

The star quarterback suffered a season-ending injury just three and a half minutes into his long-anticipated debut versus the Buffalo Bills. Since then, an inquest into how the 39-year-old's cruel injury came about has been launched as the fallout continues.

Some Jets fans had laid the blame at the door of Duane Brown, who failed to slow edge rusher Leonard Floyd, which left Rodgers unable to avoid the Bills star. Of course, the rest is history as Floyd sacked the $75 million quarterback, who was left injured as a result.

Aside from this, others have blamed offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett after the Jets used a cut block on the play that resulted in Rodgers' injury. Previously, the former Green Bay Packers superstar had expressed a dislike for plays involving offensive linemen cut-blocking at the line of scrimmage, according to the Athletic.

However, offensive line coach Carter has risen to the defence of his colleague Hackett by courageously bearing the brunt for Rodgers' injury. "It’s certainly not Hackett," Carter asserted via NJ.com, while also stating that "all the coaches on the offensive staff have done ‘a bunch of’ cut blocking in the past".

"That's an unfortunate injury that just kills me. It’s certainly not Duane’s fault, it’s my fault. We ask them to do that and we’ve cut in the past. And it unfortunately unfolded that way, and I feel terrible for Duane and for obviously Aaron.

"But that’s something, from a schematic standpoint, we always like mixing those in because these freaking rushers are good. And we try to slow them down any way we can."

As for the sidelined Rodgers, it is clear that he is remaining positive following the disappointment of being ruled out for the season. Making a first public appearance following the game versus the Bills on The Pat McAfee Show, he said: "Monday was an amazing day to start. Amazing night, running on the field with the flag, was electric.

"And then it turned into one of the toughest 24-hour stretches I’ve had in my life. A lot of sadness, a lot of tears, a lot of dark frustration and anger, and the gamut of emotions. But the sun rose the next day and I found myself in L.A., and I had surgery on Wednesday and since then I’ve been feeling better."

When asked if he could make an emotional return if the Jets are able to make the playoffs without him, he turned to Kevin Garnett for inspiration. Quoting his famous line “anything is possible”, the future Hall of Famer refused to rule out a sensational comeback.
