Delta Goodrem announces her engagement to 'best friend'

Singer and actress Delta Goodrem has got engaged to her long-term boyfriend Matthew Copley.

The former Neighbours star, 38, shared her happy news as she showed off her stunning proposal. Delta took to her social media to share a gorgeous snap of the couple looking out over a harbour at sunset. The newly-engaged pair shared a kiss as Delta wrapped her arms around her new husband-to-be. Alongside the stunning pic, she wrote: "My best friend asked me to marry him."

Delta also shared a short clip of the breathtaking Malta location as three violinists played in the background. She waved her new ring to the camera as her diamond glistened in the moonlight. The Born To Try hitmaker was flooded with comments as she shared her news with her followers.

Fiancé Matthew wrote: "My forever love!" Aussie TV presenter Kylie Gillies added: "Now THAT’s something to sing about. Congratulations to you both. Marvellous Malta memory right there." Singer Lisa Veronica wrote: Congratulations beautiful souls soooo happy for you. Xxxxxxx so much love cxxxx." Presenter Lisa Wilkinson commented: "Such beautiful news!! So happy for you sweetheart. Huge congrats to you both."

Jessica Origliasso gushed: "Congratulations angel!!!!!!! You deserve all the happiness in the universe!!! XX so happy for you both." Delta and Matthew have been dating for six years after meeting thanks to her singing career. Earlier this year, she shared: "He's my guitarist, I met him through music. It's incredible to be on stage with him because he's so talented." She told Australian Women's Weekly: "We really are a team. He's my best friend, he's kind and just a beautiful human being."

Delta likes to keep her relationship with Matthew private, as they never make red carpet events together. The actress-turned-singer shot to fame in the UK as bad girl Nina Tucker on Neighbours between 2002 and 2005 before making a brief return in 2015. Her hot Born To Try went on to reach number three in the UK charts.

The star went on to date Westlife's Brian McFadden after he split from Atomic Kitten star Kerry Katona. He had met Delta when they came together for his solo single, Almost Here. Kerry has since said that if she had not appeared on Loose Women and accepted Brian's invitation to join them in the recording studio, their lives may have taken a wholly different path. Brian and Delta got engaged but never wed.

Delta also dated Jonas Brothers singer Nick Jonas briefly when he was a teenager before they called time on their short-lived romance in 2012. However, years later the American singer admitted he'll always have feelings for her. He told news.com.au in 2015: "We run in different circles these days. But from time to time we talk. I think that life is about a journey and growth -- and each person that's a part of your life is meaningful and important. And I think that there is always love there. It's a part of the journey."
