Denise Welch says she’s mistaken for huge Hollywood star 'at least twice a week'

Denise Welch is famous to millions for her roles in Coronation Street, Waterloo Road and Hollyoaks - and for being a regular panellist on the long-running ITV daytime talk show Loose Women.

However, the 65-year-old says that the older she gets, the more regularly she is mistaken for acting legend Dame Judi Dench, 88. While Denise is proud to be confused for the Bond actress, she admits she is a little distressed that some members of the public think she could be 23 years older than she actually is.

Denise has been on the road with the Loose Women: Live Tour and she shared an anecdote about being mistaken for Dame Judy while on stage in London. She told the audience: "This must happen to me at least twice a week. The other thing is, who I get mistaken for.

“I’m sitting outside a bar in Soho having a coffee last year, and this guy comes up to me and he went, ‘You’re Judi Dench”. I love Judi Dench but she’s 88. So my son on the phone went, ‘Oh my god mam, have you just been mistaken for Judi Dench?’.”

Dame Judi is not the only person Denise has been mistaken for in recent months. Back in June, social media users were baffled when footage of American chart-topping star P!nk went viral as some confused her for the British actress.

A clip of P!nk performing a daring feat of areal acrobatics in which she was propelled across a packed stadium while performing flips and spins was humorously attributed to Denise. A music fan grabbed footage of P!nk’s daring performance and joked that the star, who was sporting short, white hair not dissimilar to Denise’s, was in fact the British actress - and said she had joined her son’s band on stage.

The social media user shared the clip via Twitter, which has since been renamed X, and wrote: “Matty Healey’s mother joined the band on stage at tonight’s The 1975 gig.” Denise herself responded to the clip and leaned into the comedic nature of the posting, writing in reply: “It’s Healy and I’m still dizzy!”

Her involvement in the online joke only sparked further confusion for some fans - as there were a few who then considered that the footage could genuinely be of Denise. One baffled online follower responded to Denise's type: “Thats amazing I thought it was Pink.”

Denise has two sons from her past marriage to 71-year-old ex-husband Tim Healy - which lasted from 1988 until 2012. They are proud parents to 34-year-old 1975 frontman Matt and 22-year-old actor Louis. Denise has since married 50-year-old artist Lincoln Townley - and was previously married to 63-year-old actor David Easter from 1985 until 1988.
