Liverpool are preparing for their opening Europa League game of the season, against LASK on Thursday evening.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will have to get used to a new routine of playing on Thursdays and Sundays having missed out on qualification for the Champions League by finishing fifth in the Premier League last season. Liverpool are favourites for the Europa League and kick off their campaign in Linz, Austria, this week.

It is another factor Klopp and his coaching staff have to consider throughout the 2022/23 campaign. They have made a promising start so far, sitting third in the league having remained unbeaten through the first five games.

They know it won’t be easy to sustain such form over a 38-game league season while competing on two fronts. With that in mind, here are the latest headlines around the club.

Jota’s dream team-mate

Diogo Jota has hailed his Portugal team-mate Bernardo Silva, but a move to Liverpool is off the cards.

Silva recently penned a new one-year contract extension with City, committing his future to Pep Guardiola's side until 2026. However, the deal does contain a £50million release clause that can be activated next summer.

Jota told That's Football: "Bernardo. "For me, he's probably one of the most intelligent football guys I've ever known and the way he can hide the ball from opponents is special."

Elliott hails transfers

Liverpool underwent a major overhaul over the summer, with Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all leaving and Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataro Endo coming in.

The new arrivals have settled quickly and Harvey Elliott thinks the team are better off now. "The squad depth is a lot better and bigger now," Elliott told the Liverpool Echo after the 3-1 win over Wolves on the weekend.

"I think in the transfer window the club exploited areas where we needed more players, younger players who can step up now and I look at people like Jarell [Quansah], making his Premier League debut today, stepping up and he was absolutely unbelievable."

Reds get £35m boost

Liverpool have been busy off the pitch, signing some lucrative commercial deals.

On Tuesday the club announced a deal with logistics firm UPS, who have become the team’s official global logistics and shipping partner.

The news follows similar deals with Google and Peloton over the past year. The Echo says the three deals combined are worth around £35m for the club.

Liverpool are pushing to increase their commercial revenue, which stood at £247m for the 2021/22 financial year.
