Retired world champion Amir Khan has claimed that he would happily put on weight and return to the ring in order to "beat up" Jake Paul.

The former unified super-lightweight champion ended his career last year when he was knocked out by Kell Brook in front of a packed out Manchester Arena, and has since been retroactively suspended for failing a drugs test. And despite being happy with his decision to leave the ring, he has said that he would happily jump back in to face controversial YouTube star Paul.

Khan's career-highest weight was 155lb for a world title bout against Canelo Alvarez in May of 2016, when he was stopped by the legendary pound-for-pound great. And he would need to tack on at least another two stone in order to be anywhere near the necessary weight to fight Paul, who has never come in lighter than 183lb.

"Jake Paul, he gets on my nerves a little bit," Khan told Heart Breakfast with Jamie and Amanda. "I think the way he conducts himself the way he acts and he’s just full of himself as well and he thinks he can fight, he’s only been boxing for like a year, so yeah, I’d love to fight him. He’s been very lucky though, he’s a little bit heavier than me but I don’t mind putting the pounds on just to beat him up."

Khan has put on some size since his retirement bout, but is clearly in good shape and not even close to what would be a monstrous size for his 5'5" frame. However, he joked during a recent interview with The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X that his wife Faryal has told him to get back in the gym to trim down.

"You're always in training camp everyday you’re or you’re going for a run you're always burning calories," he explained. "Your body is so used to burning calories, we’re eating a lot a lot because you need the nutrients in the body. You're having four or five meals sometimes six small meals throughout the whole day.

"As soon as you take the training away your body is so used to eating that many times, by then you're not burning those calories, you're still eating and just adding on the weight and before you know it then boom." When Moyles noted that he was still in "good nick", he laughed before adding that his wife disagrees.

"Well the wife doesn’t think that," he joked. "She’s always having a go at me saying get to the gym!’ honestly, it’s come to a stage where now I want to walk past the gym instead of in a gym. I'm done."
