Sophie's close bond with Wales kids - including heartbreaking moment with George
The Princess of Wales and the Duchess of Edinburgh are well-known for their close bond and are frequently seen chatting and laughing together at royal events.
The two families both live near Windsor Castle - Adelaide Cottage and Bagshot Park respectively - and have spent years dedicating themselves to their royal duties and responsibilities. As a result, the popular royals are often spotted together - with doting Sophie often turning to chat with or comfort Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Whether it is at sporting events such as the Commonwealth Games, nationally significant parades such as Trooping the Colour or at daunting moments like the late Queen's state funeral, Sophie has always been on hand to provide the children with support.

The gesture attracted a lot of praise, one fan wrote: "This picture is beautiful...", another agreed and said: "She’s such lovely woman" while a third added: "A seriously underrated Royal".
Following the service inside the Abbey, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were then filmed looking to their great-aunt to see when they had to bow and curtsey to the late Queen's coffin before they all travelled to Windsor for the Committal Service at St George's Chapel. Thanks to their closeness, it has been noted by royal experts that the Princess of Wales has been inspired by the way Sophie raised her two children, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex, and that she wishes to do the same with her three young children.

The Duchess of Edinburgh placed a supportive hand on Prince George's shoulder (Getty Images)In her book The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown, author Katie Nicholl wrote: "Kate is said to admire the way Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, are raising their children in the bosom of the Royal Family but prepared for life in the real world."
Sophie was incredibly close with the late Queen and often spoke out to praise her. She was frequently described as Her Majesty's 'second daughter' and as her 'rock'. Following the death of Princess Margaret on February 9, 2002, the nation was left in shock - but no one more so than The Queen and The Queen Mother - who died at the age of 101 just seven weeks later.

Sophie has filled a terrible gap in the Queen’s life that was left when her sister and the Queen Mother died in 2002.” Another aide said: “She is like another daughter to Her Majesty, they are that close.”
Royal Expert Richard Kay wrote: “The Queen and the [Duchess] also share a fascination with military history. Sophie loves listening to the Queen talk about great historical events, and the pair are sometimes gone for hours, pouring over ancient documents in the Royal Archives, which are kept at Windsor Castle. When Sophie visited the World War One and World War Two battlefields and cemeteries in France, she told the Queen all about what she had seen and what she felt.”
