Getting a big group of friends or family together for a celebratory meal can be difficult to organise as there's often dietary restrictions or certain requirements that you have to get right for each guest.

When something goes wrong with the food, it can put a serious downer on the occasion.

This is was what happened to one man who faced a huge backlash from his brother's girlfriend after she was not offered an adequate vegan main course at his engagement meal, despite being invited late.

The party of 30 people had a choice of a meat or fish main, but there was nothing for vegans.

Taking to Reddit, the man added that when his brother's date saw that there was no option for her, she stormed out and asked him why he would pick a place with no good vegan option available.

In the post, the engaged man wrote: "My fiancé and I invited both of our immediate family and close friends to this dinner (about 30 people).

"The dinner was held at a nice Italian restaurant in my city. Our invites gave our guests the option to choose between a meat option and a fish option for their mains."

He added that a week before the dinner, his brother asked if he could bring somebody as a plus one, to which the happy couple said yes.

But when it came to the food, she was not happy.

"When it came time to eat she pulled one of the waiters aside and loudly asked him 'is there any vegan options'," he wrote.

"The waiter looked confused and said 'we have a fish and a meat option for the mains. I can offer you a salad and some roasted potatoes and other veggies as a substitute if you wish.'"

"Brothers girlfriend started to get mouthy with him and said 'well what if I don't want a salad huh? You just assume because I'm vegan I only eat salads? What if I want some pasta? What kind of restaurant is this, this is discrimination'."

She then turned her attention to the author of the post and was furiously asking why he would pick somewhere with no vegan option.

"She ended up leaving. My brother walked out with her, and has been messaging me that I should apologise to her because I embarrassed her in front of everyone," he wrote.

"I told him she embarrassed herself. My mum's also been on my case to apologise to be the bigger person and keep the peace."

In response, many sided with him and told him not to apologise as she was late to the party.

One person wrote: "The way she talked to the waiter proves that she has no manners and the way she talked to you tells me that she is rude and spoiled."

While another stated: "The entitlement and sheer disrespect she levelled at you and the waiter far outweighs the brother's general obliviousness."
